“What is a woman? Jackson shows that a woman is someone who stays cool in the face of calumny and is headed for the Supreme Court. And that will be justice for Justice Jackson. A better question might be: What is a senator? Is it a dolt who cares more about boosting unrealistic presidential ambitions with distorted information than making the Senate, for once, look like a dignified body?”
–From Maureen Dowd’s “Real Justice: Justice Jackson,” The New York Times, March 26, 2022.

Oh my gosh, I watched the whole Kavanaugh hearing and I’m losing faith in our Supreme Court system. The Republicans had an expert watch Ms. Ford testify, and it was clear as a bell that Ms. Ford was assaulted by Kavanaugh. During the break, the expert and all the Republicans got up, very quietly, had a meeting where this expert gave them an ear full. They came back in and had come to the conclusion that Ms. Ford had indeed been assaulted, but even though she was an expert on brain function, she simply didn’t know who did the assault. By the way, who goes to an interview, yells at the interviewers and still gets the job?
President Obama nominates Garland eight months before a new Presidential election, and the Republicans said it was unfair, and too soon. We remember what Lindsay said, right? Then, on her death bed, Justice Ginsberg requests nominations wait until the next election, and we remember what happened next.
Now, there is a disclosure that Justice Thomas’s wife was pushing for the insurrection. Will Justice Thomas recuse himself? Can you imagine how the Republicans would go bat sh*t crazy if it had been a spouse of, say, Justice Sotomayor?
I’m not a Democrat, but a life long Independent. McConnell’s life goal is to make the Supreme Court all conservative. The behavior towards Ms. Jackson is off the charts bigoted, and all for show. I just don’t see why the American public wants the Supreme Court to all think the same way. That flies in the face of the three branches of government. I WANT people, judges, to think independently, and differently. That’s democracy. That’s the justice system, or was.
