The Sheltering Tree, Flagler County’s only cold-weather shelter for the homeless, will be open this evening and overnight, as well as Tuesday night, to accommodate homeless individuals, as temperatures are expected to fall below 40 both nights. The sheltering tree is at Bunnell’s United Methodist Church, 205 North Pine Street. The shelter opens at 5:30 p.m. Guests will be served a hot dinner and a hot breakfast the enxt day before the shelter must be cleared by 7:30 a.m. A team of about a dozen volunteers will manage the shelter.

The Flagler County Commission meets at 9 a.m. at the Government Services Building, 1769 E Moody Blvd., Bunnell. The commission meets again at 1 p.m. in a workshop followed by a special meeting. Chairman Dave Sullivan called for the workshop in order to more extensively analyze commissioners’ committee assignments, and redistribute them. Palm Coast Alateen Sereniteen and Al-Anon meetings: Alateen, part of Al-Anon Family Groups, is for teens bothered by someone else’s drinking. Fake News Or Not? Donald Trump Jr.’s Book Sources: “Donald Trump Jr. is pulling an extraordinary stunt in his new book “Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us”. He is slamming media organizations like The New York Times or The Washington Post for pushing “fake news” and being “biased”, while simultaneously using the same publications to back up other points that he is legitimately trying to make. This is according to an investigation by Newsweek, who analyzed the book’s endnotes and found a total of 30 references to so-called “mainstream media sources” that were includes in order to prove legitimate points. Most references were to The New York Times and The Washington Post. NPR, which is described in Trump Jr.’s book as a “failing three-letter liberal news stations”, also received one mention as a legitimate source.”–Katharina Buchholz

Flagler Beach Is Open For Business: A1A Construction Update:

FlaglerLive is providing weekly updates to year-long construction on and near State Road A1A in Flagler Beach as the Florida Department of Transportation rebuilds a 1.5-mile segment from South 9th Street to South 22nd Street, and builds a sea wall at the north end of town. These updates are provided through DOT or local officials. If you have any relevant information or images, you’re welcome to email them to the editor here.

Segment 2 (South 22nd Street to South 9th Street):

The work on the new median curbs and flumes is continuing and is approximately 80% complete. All sidewalks have been poured, and driveways are 75% complete. Work on the southbound roadway continues as the contractor has placed limerock base between 18th and 19th street, with paving for Segment 2 tentatively scheduled for later this month. The traffic separators are 90% complete.

Segment 3 (North 18th Street to Osprey Drive):

Wall construction is complete, and walkover construction will begin once Hurricane Season is over.

FINANCIAL REGULATOR AT ISSUE: Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet will hold a conference call to discuss appointing a commissioner of the Office of Financial Regulation. The job has been open since July, when former Commissioner Ronald Rubin was fired amid allegations of sexual harassment. Rubin has denied the allegations. (Monday, 1:30 p.m., public access in the Cabinet meeting room at the Capitol. The meeting also will be streamed on the Florida Channel.)
