Flagler County Crime Falls 20%, Steepest Drop in Decades and Almost 3 Times Larger Than Florida Average

Flagler County’s crime index in 2018 fell by 20.2 percent, by far the largest year-over-year drop in at least 18 years, and a decline almost three times the 7.4 percent drop in crime across Florida over the same period.

A 40-ft. trawler that had begun its journey on the St. Johns River and was making its way south was gutted by fire this afternoon, burning for some two hours as firefighters fought the blaze under the Flagler Beach bridge at Moody Boat Launch. No one was injured.

A county court order returned four of 18 animals to Mackenzie and Staci Steele, with the rest distributed between four other parties. The Steels must abide by strict conditions and still face a criminal charge.

The suspect is Justin Tyler Blake, 24, described as having dark colored shaggy hair down to his shoulders, a full, dark-colored beard, and wearing wearing a black t-shirt and black pants. He’s wanted on felony eluding and assault charges, and on a domestic violence charge, among others.

It is unusual that individuals booked on a first-degree felony charge smile so broadly for their mugshot, as did Leon Wiley Jr., 52, Friday evening at the Flagler County jail.

Leon Norman Wiley Jr., 52, is charged with sexual battery–or rape–of a custodian over a victim between the age of 12, a first degree felony with a potential for life in prison.
