Flagler Cares, a one-stop health and social care organization, is launching a fundraising campaign in celebration of its 10-year anniversary called “Keep the Holiday Lights On.” Flagler Cares is seeking donors to sponsor 100 homes at $100 per home to cover the cost of December’s electric bill for struggling families. Portions of East Drain Street in Bunnell Will Be Renamed in Honor of Former Commissioner Daisy Henry
Following a vote by the Bunnell City Commission in July, Bunnell government will rename a portion of East Drain Street in the south part of the city after Daisy Henry, the long-time city commissioner and a local icon who was all but synonymous with life around and beyond Drain Street. The street will be called Daisy Henry Street. That ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 1 at 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Drain Street and South Pine St. in Bunnell, with ample parking near Carver Gym.

Federal Judge Refuses to Block Cultivated Meat Law
A federal judge Friday rejected a request by a California-based company for a preliminary injunction against a new law banning the sale and manufacturing of “cultivated” meat in Florida. Chief U.S. District Judge Mark Walker, who held a hearing Monday, issued a 21-page decision denying the preliminary-injunction motion.
Tolls Suspended Until Oct. 14 on Roads in Gulf and Orlando Area

Trump Calls Troops’ Traumatic Brain Injuries Mere ‘Headache’
Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday that U.S. troops who suffered traumatic brain injuries after Iranian rocket fire in Iraq in 2020 only experienced a “headache,” dismissing the experiences of dozens of American soldiers who were later awarded the Purple Heart. Trump’s comments came after a reporter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, asked whether he should “have been tougher on Iran” after that nation launched ballistic missiles on Al-Asad Air Base in western Iraq in January 2020, during Trump’s presidency.
Flagler County Jail Reaccredited Is Reaccredited, One of Just 37 in the State to Have Distinction
The Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility–the county jail–became an accredited correctional facility on October 2, 2018. It was reaccredited on October 6, 2021, and most recently reaccredited again on October 2. Accredited facilities are required to be assessed and reaccredited every three years to ensure they maintain the requirements of accreditation.

Harris Within Margin of Error in Florida, New Poll Shows
The presidential race in the Sunshine State is still too close to call. That’s the take of Morning Consult polling, showing that although Donald Trump has stretched his lead over Kamala Harris, it’s not by much. Harris is running close to Trump despite the state having roughly a million more registered Republicans than Democrats, in part because of a marginal 47% to 44% edge with independents.

Tonight’s Palm Coast City Council Budget Meeting Postponed as 2 Members Have Covid
The City of Palm Coast’s final budget hearing, scheduled for Wednesday evening, September 18, has been postponed to Wednesday, September 25, at 5:05 p.m. due to the illness of two City Council members who have tested positive for Covid. The City of Palm Coast is asking residents to limit water usage after receiving an unprecedented 7-10 inches of rain over the past five days. This heavy rainfall has caused our wastewater plants to process an additional 6 million gallons of water in a single day—equivalent to 10 Olympic-sized swimming pools. The system is under significant pressure, with 23 lift stations nearing capacity, especially in areas south of Palm Coast Parkway.

August 2024 rainfall figures were quite variable this past month. Normal year to date numbers are overall healthy with a few a below and above normal expectations. Normal rainfall for August is 6.40”. Normal year to date (YTD) rainfall is 33.13”. Localized rainfall has caused some areas to get more while others less which is typical of rainy season showers and storms.
