In Court: Carl Devore, 20, is sentenced on a second-degree murder charge for the killing of Victor James Betty 28, during a home invasion in Palm Coast’s F Section in July 2016. The sentencing is at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 401 at the Flagler County courthouse, before Circuit Judge Dennis Craig.
The Palm Coast City Council meets in workshop at 9 a.m. at City Hall in Town Center. Council members are expected to discuss what lobbying firm to hire, discuss the city’s Fibernet system, which has had some financial issues, discuss lighting for the controversial FPL footpath through the F Section, and discuss buying the property that belongs to the East Flagler Mosquito Control District on Utility Drive, though the District has requested a new appraisal.
The St. Johns River Water Management District Governing Board is expected to adopt a 2017-2018 budget and millage rate. 5 p.m., district Maitland Service Center, 601 South Destiny Dr., Maitland.
♦ Freedom of Thought, Freedom From Prayer: David Williamson, founder and President of the Central Florida Freethought Community and a plaintiff suing the Brevard County Commission for its overtly religious invocation policy, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Atlantic Coast Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Flagler County Public Library Main Branch, 2500 Palm Coast Pkwy NW, Palm Coast. Republican Jose Felix Diaz, Democrat Annette Taddeo and no-party candidate Christian “He-Man” Schlaerth are competing for the Senate seat, which became open when former Sen. Frank Artiles resigned in April. Republican Daniel Perez and Democrat Gabriela Mayaudon are running for the House seat, which became open when Diaz resigned to run for the Senate.
