February 6, 2018 | FlaglerLive | 2 Comments

Garret Hunter, a high school senior dual-enrolled at Daytona State College, took this shot of last week's Blood Moon on the Flagler Beach Bridge, using a Canon T6s paired with a 600mm f8 Novoflex lens. He described the circumstances of the shot: 'Ended up getting to the beach about 5:30am, and after realising the tree line would block my shot walked most of the way up the bridge. I was going straight from there to some volunteer work I do, and got some weird looks from joggers, walking up the bridge with an old canvas duffle bag and a three piece suit. Doesn’t help that the lens itself uses what looks very much like a pistol grip as a handle and to control the focus. I tracked the moon for over an hour, but it wasn’t until 7:00 that it started changing colour. For then till about 7:15 when it went under the tree line got a chance to get some pretty great shots, though ended up missing the sunrise which I had planned to timelapse.'
