“Let’s talk about shit, for example. It happens, as the bumper sticker says, and it happens to a cleaning person every day. The first time I encountered a shit-stained toilet as a maid, I was shocked by the sense of unwanted intimacy. A few hours ago, some well-fed butt was straining away on this toilet seat, and now here I am wiping up after it. For those who have never cleaned a really dirty toilet, I should ex~lain that there are three kinds of shit stains. There are remnants oflandslides running down the inside of toilet bowls. There are the splash-back remains on the underside of toilet seats. And, perhaps most repulsively, there’s sometimes a crust of brown on the rim of a toilet seat, where a turd happened to collide on its dive to the water. You don’t want to know this? Well, it’s not something I would have chosen to dwell on myself, but the different kinds of stains require different cleaning approaches. One prefers those that are interior to the toilet bowl, since they can be attacked by brush, which is a kind of action-at-a-distance weapon. And one dreads the crusts on the seats, especially when they require the intervention of a Dobie as well as a rag.”

Navy Bombing in the Ocala National Forest: Navy training schedules indicate that inert and live bombing will take place at the Pinecastle Range Complex located in the Ocala National Forest this week. Bombings at times can be heard in Flagler-Palm Coast. The bombings are scheduled as follows:

Monday: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Inert and Live.
Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Inert, 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., Inert and Live.
Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Inert, 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., Inert and Live.
Thursday: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Inert and Live.
Friday: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Inert and Live.
Saturday: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Inert and Live.
Sunday: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Inert and Live.
During bombing periods wildlife may be temporarily displaced. Use extra caution when driving through the Ocala National forest and surrounding areas. Secure any items around your residence that could attract wildlife. Always be mindful of larger animals including black bears and practice bearwise measures. The Bunnell City Commission meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 201 West Moody Boulevard, Bunnell. : Flagler Palm Coast Kiwanis Firefighter of the Year Robert Bracewell will be recognized. Commissioners are expected to discuss City Manager Dan Davis’s job performance, an item that had been on the agenda two weeks ago, but because of Commissioner’s John Sowell’s absence, was rescheduled to tonight. Davis two weeks ago apologized to City Clerk Sandi Bolser and the commission over a heated confrontation between the manager and the city clerk, but the issue caused some concern for certain commissioners. The Flagler County Stamp and Coin Club holds it monthly meeting. Doors open at 4:30 pm. From 4:30 – 6 pm this time is used for buying, selling and trading stamps and coins. Meeting starts at 6 pm and ends at 7:30 pm. There is a live auction of stamps and coins at the end of the meeting. The club is open for members, the general public, and all who are interested in stamp and coin collecting and investing. Free stamps and coin evaluations at all our meetings FCS&CC is the only non-profit Stamp and Coin Club, Inc., in Flagler County. Come join us for a fun filled evening. BUDGET RESERVES, PECO DISCUSSED: The House Appropriations Committee will receive a presentation from Ben Watkins, director of the state Division of Bond Finance, about reserves and other issues affecting bond ratings. DJJ APPEARS AT SENATE COMMITTEE: The Department of Juvenile Justice will make a presentation to the Senate Criminal Justice Committee. The presentation will come after Miami Herald reports about problems at juvenile justice facilities. (Monday, 4 p.m., 37 Senate Office Building, the Capitol.)
