Free For All Fridays on WNZF: Host David Ayres welcomes Rep. Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast, and newly elected Palm Coast councilman Eddie Branquinho, among others, starting a little after 9 a.m. with a commentary by FlaglerLive Editor Pierre Tristam on the county’s Captain’s BBQ deal at Bing’s Landing.

Friday: Flagler Beach Aviation Days at the Flagler Beach Museum, 207 S. Central Ave, Flagler Beach, three days of free aviation-related events: November 28th is the anniversary date of Charles Lindbergh’s forced landing at the Flagler Beach Airport in 1931. This momentous event, along with the story of Okey & Martha Bevins, famous aviators who operated the beach airport flying school, and the importance of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Coastal Patrol Base 5 in Flagler Beach during 1942-43, will be celebrated during the three-day event. Displays will be set up at the museum and the free events will include: November 28, Charles Lindbergh Day. There will be a walking tour to the site of the airport beacon, now the south lot of the Flagler Beach Community Church, and to Betty Steflick Preserve to view the remains of the runways. November 29, Okey and Martha Bevin’s Day. Becky Moses, cousin of Okey, has offered to share memorabilia for display, and will be available to share some family history and talk with attendees. November 30, CAP Day. Tom Duncan will present and discuss a power point presentation of his book, “Forgotten Flyers and Airfields” in the Commission Chambers at City Hall.

Friday, Saturday: Matanzas High School Fall Play: “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” 7 p.m. at Pirates Theater, with an additional 2 p.m. performance on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Friday: The Scenic A1A PRIDE Committee meets at 9 a.m. at the Hammock Community Center, 79 Mala Compra Rd. off A1A. The committee is expected to further discuss the planned construction of a new, larger Captain’s BBQ at Bing’s Landing.

Friday: Daytona State College hosts the 4th annual ShORE Symposium with its Institute of Marine and Environmental Studies (IMES), the Marine Discovery Center and the Atlantic Center for the Arts, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Brannon Civic Center, 105 S. Riverside Dr., in New Smyrna Beach. Dr. Marcus Eriksen, an environmental scientist, educator, author and expert on the ecological impacts of plastic marine pollution, is be the keynote speaker. ShORE stands for Sharing Our Research with Everyone on the Indian River Lagoon (IRL), a group dedicated to creating public awareness on how to protect the fragile ecosystem. All stakeholders who have an interest in restoring and preserving the integrity of the Indian River Lagoon system are especially encouraged to attend. Although the event is free to the public, registration is encouraged. More information can be found at DaytonaState.edu/shore. Other speakers include Dr. Aaron Adams, director of science and conservation for the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust and a senior scientist at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute of Florida Atlantic University, Clay Henderson, executive director of Stetson University’s Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience, who will speak on progress made through the ratification of Amendment 1, which dedicated one third of the existing documentary stamp tax to land and water conservation, and Lori Morris, an environmental scientist with the St. Johns River Water Management District and a renowned expert on seagrasses in the Indian River Lagoon.

Saturday: Enrollment Day at Daytona State College, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at DSC’s Daytona Beach Campus, Wetherell Center, located at 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd. Students can take advantage of the one-stop event to complete everything from admission to registration and have a chance to win a $350 scholarship from the Daytona State Foundation. How it works: Students start by completing a Daytona State application, then meet with an Admissions Advisor and Financial Aid Counselor, take an assessment test (if applicable), meet with an Academic Advisor, and then lock in their schedule. The Daytona State Financial Aid Office will be open to assist with college education financing and will provide assistance to complete the financial aid applications (FAFSA). Academic Advisors will also be available to talk about unique academic programs such as Honors College and Learning Communities which includes Linked Classes and Daytona State’s award-winning QUANTA program. Enrollment Day event will culminate with a free drawing for a $350 scholarship presented by the Daytona State Foundation; only students registering for classes at the event will be eligible for this drawing.

Saturday: Tree Lighting Ceremony and Fantasy Lights: Kick off the holiday season at the City of Palm Coast’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, also the first night of Fantasy Lights around the lake, at 6 p.m. at Central Park in Town Center, 975 Central Ave. The event is free. Join Santa Claus, the Palm Coast City Council and the Rotary Club of Flagler County in the countdown to the lighting of a beautiful tree, being decorated this year in a “Starlight Light, Star Bright” theme. Santa will arrive on a Palm Coast Fire Engine. The Choral Arts Society will perform and later in the night you can join their carolers in some holiday favorites. Children can visit with Santa and parents should bring their own cameras for photos. Children can also do crafts and write Letters to Santa at the Parks & Rec booth. Unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items will be collected for Toys for Tots and a local food pantry and can be turned into the Parks & Rec booth. Opening night of the Rotary Club’s 13th Annual Fantasy Lights Festival will feature “A Taste of the Holidays” with local restaurants offering a wide assortment of small plates. Tickets are $1, and the “tastes” are one to three tickets each. There will also be a decorated tree silent auction on opening night. The 50 animated light displays around the Central Park lake will continue 6:30 to 9 p.m. daily through Dec. 30. Admission to Fantasy Lights is free, but donations to support Rotary’s service work are accepted.

Saturday: Ocean Art Gallery celebrates the Holiday Season with an exciting Art Reception, Sea Turtle Art Raffle Drawing, and an Olive Oil Tasting from 5 – 8 p.m. at its Granada Plaza location in Ormond Beach. The gallery concludes its November-long fundraising project called Turtle Palooza II with the drawing of the winning ticket for “Amazing Grace,” a sea turtle painting donated by watercolorist and gallery co-owner Bibi Gromling. The drawing will be at 7:30 pm. The winner does not have to be present. The gallery will showcase a variety of art from its 33 artists, most of whom are from Central Florida and very well-known throughout the state and the Southeast US. Mediums represented include oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, poured acrylic, photography, sculpture, and sterling silver jewelry. The Reception will have live music provided by the Dr. Cashband and refreshments will be served.

Sunday: University Concert Band, Douglas Phillips, conductor: The newly established University Concert Band invites you to celebrate the start of the holiday season. Seasonally themed selections include: Percy Grainger’s beautiful Sussex Mummers’ Christmas Carol, variants on a Mediaeval Tune (In Dulci Jubilo) by Norman Dello Joio, A Hanukkah Festival to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah, themes from John Williams’ soundtrack to the classic holiday movie franchise “Home Alone,” Alfred Reed’s glorious Russian Christmas Music, and of course, no holiday band concert would be complete without Leroy Anderson’s classic holiday favorite, Sleigh Ride. 3 p.m. Lee Chapel in Elizabeth Hall, 421 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand, 386-822-8950. Admission: $10 adults, $5 youth and students and free for ages 12 and under. Tickets are available at the door.

This Committee meets quarterly, is required by Statutes, and provides recommendations to the City Commission regrading the investment policies and strategies.

This Committee rarely meets but is required by our Code of Ordinance in the event an employee has a grievance and wishes to appeal disciplinary action.

The Rotary Club of Flagler County is looking for bands and musical groups to perform seasonal music at the Fantasy Lights in Central Park, Palm Coast. The free event featuring lighted displays around the lake, Santa’s Village, Train rides for the kids also has a nightly live performance of seasonal music at 7 p.m. each night for the month of December. The music is carried throughout the park and Rotary provides some sound equipment and lights. HEARING SET IN SENATE DISCRIMINATION CASE: U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle will hold a hearing in a case filed by the Florida Senate after allegations by a legislative aide that she was a victim of sexual harassment and retaliation. Aide Rachel Perrin Rogers filed a discrimination complaint in January with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The Senate filed a lawsuit in Hinkle’s court seeking a preliminary injunction to block an administrative law judge from requiring the Senate’s participation in the EEOC case. The Senate contends, in part, that it is protected by the legal doctrine of sovereign immunity, though EEOC lawyers are fighting the Senate on the issue. Perrin Rogers was at the center of a sexual-harassment investigation late last year that led to the resignation of powerful Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater. Perrin Rogers alleged that Latvala harassed her, triggering the Senate to appoint a special master to investigate the accusations. The special master, former state appellate Judge Ronald Swanson, found probable cause to support Perrin Rogers’ allegations — though Latvala has steadfastly denied them. Perrin Rogers, an aide to Sen. Wilton Simpson, R-Trilby, subsequently filed the EEOC complaint against the Senate, alleging in part that she faced retaliation. SCOTT, CABINET MEET: Gov. Rick Scott and the state Cabinet will meet by phone and consider a series of issues, including two Florida Power & Light power-plant projects. Scott and the Cabinet act as a state “siting” board with authority to decide whether power-plant projects should move forward. The two FPL proposals are a project to build a 1,200-megawatt Broward County power plant, which has drawn opposition from the Sierra Club, and a nuclear project at the Turkey Point complex in Miami-Dade County. In 2014, Scott and the Cabinet approved FPL’s plans to add two nuclear reactors at the utility’s Turkey Point complex. But the decision was overturned by the 3rd District Court of Appeal after local governments argued, in part, that the governor and Cabinet failed to use Miami land-development rules. The court also found Scott and the Cabinet erred in claiming they didn’t have authority to require the installation of underground transmission lines. The court sent the issue back to Scott and the Cabinet. (Friday, noon, public access in Cabinet meeting room, the Capitol.)
