Friday: Scenic A1A Pride: The Flagler County Sheriff’s Jeff Stuart will present the department’s priorities for the Hammock at a meeting of the Scenic A1A Pride Committee at 9 a.m. at the Hammock Community Center, 79 Mala Compra Road. The committee is also expected to hold its elections.

Friday: Coastal Cloud, the Hammock-based company, marks its fifth-year anniversary with a 1 p.m. celebration marked by the appearances of Sen. Travis Hutson, Rep. Paul Renner, Coastal Cloud co-founders and managing partners Sara and Tim Hale, Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland (a Coastal Cloud employee), and Commissioner Donald O’Brien, among others, with the possible appearance of Gov. Rick Scott, at Coastal Cloud Headquarters: 1 Hammock Beach Pkwy, Palm Coast.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday: “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” at the Flagler Playhouse: The show highlights the best rock ’n roll tunes of the legendary songwriting duo of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. This musical revue showcases such numbers as Yackety Yak, Charlie Brown, Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog, Love Potion #9, Stand By Me and many more. So bring a date and come to the greatest singalong that Flagler Playhouse has ever seen, featuring nearly 40 of the best songs ever recorded. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and through Feb. 4: The Men’s Futures Tennis Tournament at the Palm Coast Tennis Center, 10 a.m., 1290 Belle Terre Parkway. The Palm Coast welcomes tennis stars of the future to this annual tournament at the Palm Coast Tennis Center. The two week event includes fast-paced competition, a special Kids Day and ProAm event to meet and shoot around with the players. Ticket information is available 386-986-2550.

Friday: At the Flagler Auditorium: “Ethan Bortnick” When he was just three years old, the Hollywood, Florida native asked his parents for piano lessons and discovered an uncanny ability to hear a song once and play it back note for note – the musical equivalent of a photographic memory. He soaked up the music of such diverse artists and composers as Beethoven, Mozart, jazz pianist Bill Evans, Little Richard, Billy Joel and Elton John, and began creating original compositions at age five. A few years later, Ethan began making television appearances and touring, connecting with audiences in countries such as Japan, Brazil, Canada, South Africa and Australia. Ethan has not only moved audiences throughout the world as a captivating musician, but he is also a driven humanitarian, dedicated to combining his musical pursuits with his charity work. Saturday: Dunes Repairs: Flagler County government officials hold a ceremonial groundbreaking to mark the beginning of the county’s dunes restoration project, following the damage and erosion dunes endured during Hurricanes Matthew and Irma and other lesser storms. The groundbreaking is scheduled for 10 a.m. at MalaCompra Park, 115 Mala Compra Road in the Hammock, off State Road A1A.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday: “Songs For a New World,” at City Repertory Theatre: “I don’t want to philosophize. I just want to tell a story.” That line from Songs for a New World, which opens January 12 at City Repertory Theatre, describes it perfectly. In fact, it tells a whole collection of stories. It’s not a book musical – there is no over-arching plot and no consistent characters throughout the evening – and yet it has a very strong sense of unity about it because every song in the show is essentially about the same thing: those moments in life when everything seems perfect and then suddenly disaster strikes, in the form of the loss of a job, an unexpected pregnancy, the death of a loved one, the end of a marriage, imprisonment, even suicide. But it’s even more about the way we regroup and figure out how to survive in a new set of circumstances – a new world – even against seemingly overwhelming odds. The City Repertory Theater production runs for five more performances – Jan. 19, 20, 21, 27 & 28. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 pm. Sunday performances begin at 2 pm. Saturday: Nathaniel Glover Leadership Workshop, 11 a.m., First Church of Palm Coast (91 Old Kings Road North, Palm Coast. Glover is president of Edward Waters College, the first-elected African-American Sheriff of Jacksonville, and the first-elected African-American Sheriff in Florida since Reconstruction. Moreover,Glover is an alumnus of Edward Waters College. Free admission.

Saturday: The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra in concert at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler College’s Lewis Auditorium, 14 Granada Street, St. Augustine. The orchestra has performed alongside many well-known conductors and soloists such as Triin Ruubel who has won several prizes in international competitions. Tickets are $40 for adults and $5 for children and students with a valid ID. Flagler County Citizens Academy now taking applications for February 27 start: Flagler County government is accepting applications for its Spring 2018 Citizens Academy program, a free ten-week course introducing participants to the day-to-day operations of Flagler County government. Registration is free, but class size is limited to 30 and applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis. The spring classes will be held on consecutive Tuesday mornings, 9 a.m. to noon beginning February 27. Each week participants learn about responsibilities and operations of County departments, such as Land Management, Economic Development, and Fire Rescue. Locations include the 911 center at Emergency Operations, the control tower at the Executive Airport, and the Lodge at Princess Place Preserve. Citizens Academy is also an opportunity for attendees to interact with staff and ask questions on topics that range from code enforcement to senior day-care to the property assessment process. The final session – which includes a Q&A roundtable with the county commissioners – will be May 1, 2018. A graduation ceremony on Monday, May 7 at 5 p.m. will recognize the 14th Citizens Academy class, during a regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of County Commissioners. Lately, he’s been exploring a more introspective take on the industry, and five days into the new year he launched a video series on how to deal with the many insecurities one faces as a professional musician.
