The newly-formed Palm Coast Model Yacht Club meets at Palm Coast’s Central Park pond in Town Center at 2 p.m. to race its sailing boats, which vary in length from 3 to 5 feet. The club meets every Thursday at 2 p,m. at the pond, welcomes new members–there are no dues–or spectators, who can have a go at piloting the sail boats as well. CareerSource Flagler Volusia (CareerSourceFV) hosts the 5th Annual Paychecks for Patriots Hiring Event from 10 am until 2 pm. The morning hours from 10 am to 12 pm are reserved for veterans and eligible spouses. From 12 pm to 2 pm, the event will be opened for public participation. There are 25 employers confirmed to be in attendance. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3282, Elmer J. Hawkins Banquet Hall, 5810 S. Williamson Blvd. Port Orange.

Wadsworth Elementary School‘s PTO and School Advisory Council meet at 6 p.m. in the school’s media center.

Corrine Brown sentencing: Former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, D-Fla., will be sentenced after being convicted in May on federal charges related to a scheme to use a sham education charity to finance personal expenses and events. 10 a.m., Bryan Simpson U.S. Courthouse, 300 North Hogan St., Jacksonville.

The Daytona State College Board of Trustees is scheduled to hold a workshop and a regular meeting. Workshop at 1 p.m., followed by regular meeting, Daytona State College, Building 100, 1200 West International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach.

Blood Donations: The Big Red Bus will be at the following locations this week:

  • Friday, Nov. 17: Publix at 800 Belle Terre Parkway, Palm Coast, from noon to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 18, Publix at Palm Harbor-Island Walk, Palm Coast, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov. 19, Trinity Presbyterian Church, 156 Florida Park Drive, Palm Coast, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Rotary Requests Volunteer Bands For Fantasy Lights: The Fantasy Lights event at Palm Coast’s Central Park put on by the Rotary Club of Flagler County is looking for bands to entertain in the evening. Fantasy Lights runs the entire month of December and is a popular event with families who come to see the lights display, snow and Santa. Church bands and choirs, school groups and individuals and others are invited to sign up and sing seasonal music for the holidays. Sound equipment is available but groups can also bring their own sound equipment. To sign up, contact music coordinator Carl Laundrie at [email protected] or a member of the Rotary Club of Flagler County with your contact information.

VENEZUELA INVESTMENTS ON TABLE: The House Oversight, Transparency and Administration Subcommittee will take up a bill (HB 359), filed by Rep. Jeanette Nunez, R-Miami, and Rep. Manny Diaz Jr., R-Hialeah, that would bar state agencies from investing money in companies that do business with the Maduro regime in Venezuela. (Thursday, 9 a.m., Morris Hall, House Office Building, the Capitol.)

POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION CONSIDERED: The House Post-Secondary Education Subcommittee will host a panel about efforts to boost post-secondary attainment. (Thursday, 9 a.m., 306 House Office Building, the Capitol.)

CITY AUDITS REQUESTED: The Joint Legislative Auditing Committee will consider a request by Rep. Randy Fine, R-Palm Bay, for an audit of the city of Palm Bay and a request by Sen. Doug Broxson, R-Gulf Breeze, for an audit of the city of Gulf Breeze. (Thursday, 3:45 p.m., 301 Senate Office Building, the Capitol.)

SUPREME COURT RELEASES OPINIONS: The Florida Supreme Court is expected to release weekly opinions. (Thursday, 11 a.m.)

RESERVOIR PROJECT AT ISSUE: The South Florida Water Management District will hold one in a series of meetings about a reservoir project in the Everglades Agricultural Area. The project, south of Lake Okeechobee, is a priority of Senate President Joe Negron, R-Stuart. (Thursday, 6 p.m., district headquarters, 3301 Gun Club Road, West Palm Beach.)
