1-Acre Brush Fire Off SR 100 Mobilizes Division of Forestry and Flagler Fire Flight

A 1-acre brush fire broke out just after 4 this afternoon in an area difficult to reach for firefighters, just south of the Winn Dixie shopping center on State Road 100, and some 75 feet eastt of I-95.

The fire along Seminole Woods Blvd. started as a 70 by 70 blaze but was then intentionally broadened to an acre to prevent fire issues later. (© FlaglerLive)

A road crew was working on the east side of Seminole Woods Blvd., clearing brush in the first step of construction of a path, when a track hoe severed a power line that set a 70-by-70 fot area on fire. No residential or commercial properties were in danger.

The 9-acre fire is consuming tree stumps, mulch and related debris at a dump for such material, and will continue burning at a lesser intensity for days, possibly weeks, creating smoke issues. Firefighters left the scene Tuesday morning, leaving it to the landowners to resolve.

All northbound lanes of I-95 have been closed since 2 p.m. at U.S. 1 near the Flagler-St. Johns County line because of thick plumes of smoke wafting over the highway in St. Johns, where firefighters are battling a large brush fire.
