Friday: Flagler Palm Coast High Dance Recital: “Stories in Motion” is a culmination of the dance works created through Flagler Palm Coast High School’s Fine Arts Dance Program. The selections are a celebration of Contemporary, Hop-Hop, Jazz, and Tap Dances. The Artistic Director is Janice Monsanto, the FPCHS Dance Teacher with guest choreographers; Brianna O’Brien, Cristiano Perez, Brandon Rodriquez, Jose Soto and Paige Steward. Saturday: Ocean Art Gallery in Flagler Beach hosts an art opening reception for 13 of Florida’s award-winning plein air and studio artists who will showcase their unique art styles in an exhibit titled “Fabulous Florida.” The 5 to 8 p.m. reception will be preceded by six artist presentations from 1 to 3 p.m. at 206 Moody Blvd. (SR 100) in Flagler Beach.Free parking is available behind the building. For information, call 386.693.4882. Tom Sadler, Sally Evans, Charles Dickinson, Gary Rupp, Martha Lent and Trish Beckham will talk about their art and careers in the afternoon session. Seating is limited to 30; reservations (386.693.4882) are suggested. All 13 artists are recognized for their award-winning artwork in oil, acrylic and pastel, with each of them garnering sales in major art events, such as Wekiva, Forgotten Coast, Paradise, Polasek Museum, and New Smyrna Beach. Plein air painting, or painting outdoors, has a long history extending from the late 18th and early 19th centuries with a variety of artists in Europe, Russia, and eventually America. Perhaps best known by the public are the impressionist and post-impressionist painters Monet, Corot, Van Gogh, Pissaro, Sargent, and Cezanne.
Saturday: The Flagler Auditorium hosts its annual gala fundraiser at Halifax Plantation starting at 5:30 p.m. $75 per person, $700 for a table of 10. Traces of Gold will provide the music. n keeping with the “Rock” idea, local art students from the Flagler Palm Coast High School Art Club, JJ Graham’s art students from Salvo Art and the set painters and designers from Flagler Playhouse have donated their creative talents to create one-of-a-kind, hand-painted rocking chairs. These chairs will be auctioned off at the Gala via a silent auction. All proceeds from this auction will go into the fund the Auditorium uses to award scholarships and grants to Flagler County students and arts organizations.
Saturday: Neil Berg’s widely acclaimed 100 Years of Broadway, a musical revue of Broadway’s most celebrated shows features a dazzling cast of four to five Broadway stars accompanied by an all-star New York band, in concert at at 7:30 p.m. Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Granada Street, St. Augustine, opposite the Lightner Museum. $40 per ticket. 100 Years of Broadway recreates the greatest moments from the finest shows of the century featuring the actual stars of shows such as The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, CATS, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Jekyll & Hyde. Saturday: The Dover Quartet at Amelia Island, which played before a sold-out audience on March 18, will make its final appearance at the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival’s 2018 season. The Festival’s Quartet-in-Residence will perform works of Couperin, Schoenberg and Zemlinsky. The 3 p.m. performance will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2600 Atlantic Avenue in Fernandina Beach. Tickets for this concert and the remaining performances of the 2018 season are available at www.aicmf.com or by calling the Festival office at 904-261-1779. The Dover Quartet’s rise to the top of its field has been “practically meteoric,” according to Strings magazine. Catapulted to prominence after sweeping the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition, the group has become a major presence on the international scene. The Washington Post has written that the quartet’s distinctive sound has confirmed the Dover’s status as “the very model of a modern young classical ensemble.”
