severe weather northeast florida — The National Weather Service is cautioning about potential for severe weather Monday and Tuesday. Round 1: On Monday, a warm front across southeast Georgia will pose a threat for strong storms during the afternoon, with severe wind, hail, and tornadoes possible. Round 2: Overnight Monday, a line of storms from northern Georgia into eastern Alabama will pose a threat for severe winds as it moves into southeast Georgia and northern Florida. Round 3: As the cold front moves through the area on Tuesday, strong storms could once again develop across north and north-central Florida and will pose a threat for severe wind, hail, and tornadoes. The situation is very fluid and may change. The National Weather Service is at http://www.weather.gov/jax/

“Since US troops could rarely find the enemy, much less “take and hold” the vast jungles of the highlands, his strategy was to deploy small American units to serve as “bait” for North Vietnamese attacks and then kill the enemy with artillery and air strikes. The “body count”—or the “kill ratio”—became the standard measure for whether progress was being made. As a result, commanders on the ground often inflated the number of enemy soldiers killed to please their superiors, who in turn inflated the figures even more. Meanwhile many American combat troops were killed and wounded.”

In Court: It’s a heavy trial week for Circuit Judge Dennis Craig, with four defendants slated for trial–Richard Chubka, facing cocaine and pot possession charges, Joshua Keyes, facing kidnapping, aggravated battery and burglary charges, Robert Leatherman, facing a felony battery charge, , and C.J. Nelson, facing a charge of felony child abuse. Nelson is accused of punching a 16-year-old girl at Epic Theater. Nelson’s attorney, Josh Davis, tried to get the case dismissed by arguing the Stand Your Ground defense last month, but the motion was denied. Today is jury selection for all the cases.

The Flagler County Commission holds a goal-setting session at 8 a.m. at the Emergency Operations Center, 1769 E. Moody Blvd, Bldg 3, Bunnell. The commission meets again at 5 p.m. at the Government Services Building. Commissioners are expected to approve a bid Motorola Solutions Inc., one of just two bidders to be the company that will be in charge of updating Flagler County’s emergency communications network, a project expected to cost upwards of $10 to $12 million. Commissioners are also considering a land-use application for an RV park off Colbert Lane, by Gurell Land Management, but the county’s planning department is recommending against approval. Flagler Beach Mayor Linda Provencher holds a town hall meeting at City Hall at 5:30 p.m., an open, informal forum to discuss concerns and questions you may have regarding Flagler Beach.

Carl Jones kicks off his campaign for Flagler County School Board at 6 p.m. at the VFW, 47 Old Kings Road North, Palm Coast, with a meet-the-candidate session.

CONSTITUTION REVISION COMMISSION MEETS: The Florida Constitution Revision Commission will meet as it considers proposed constitutional amendments that could go on the November general-election ballot. The 37-member commission meets every 20 years and has the authority to put issues directly on the ballot. (Monday, 10 a.m., Senate chamber, the Capitol.)

WASSERMAN SCHULTZ DISCUSSES GUN SAFETY: U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., will host a roundtable discussion about gun safety. (Monday, 10:30 a.m., Sunrise Police Department, 10440 West Oakland Park Blvd., Sunrise.)

COUNTY OFFICIALS BACK AMENDMENT: Members of the Constitution Revision Commission and county officials from various parts of the state will appear at a news conference to support a proposed constitutional amendment about the offices of sheriff, clerk of court, tax collector, property appraiser and supervisor of elections. The proposal, which is being considered by the commission, would mandate that those offices be filled in county elections. It also would prevent counties from abolishing or shifting the duties of the offices. (Monday, 1 p.m., first floor rotunda, the Capitol.)
