“When a lot of the mainstream media talks about the working class, there is a tendency to romanticize, to idealize them as the most authentic Americans. They are “real” and their problems are “real” problems, as if everyone else is dealing with artificial obstacles. We see this in some of the breathless media coverage of Trump voters and in a lot of the online chatter about the “Roseanne” reboot. What often goes unsaid is that when the working class is defined in our cultural imagination, we are talking about white people, even though the real American working class is made up of people from many races and ethnicities. During a Television Critics Association panel promoting the show, Ms. Barr said, “it was working-class people who elected Trump.” This myth persists, but it is only a myth.”

In Court: Day three in the trial of of Kimberle Weeks, who faces seven third-degree felony counts of illegally recording or disclosing phone conversations (down from 12 counts). Weeks was charged in early 2015, shortly after she resigned as Flagler County’s supervisor of elections. Jury selection took place Monday before Judge Margaret Hudson. In Courtroom 401, at the Flagler County courthouse.

The Palm Coast Planning Board holds a special meeting to consider recommending approval of a development on 108 acres at I-95 and State Road 100, at the southwest corner. The development will include a stormwater pond and related-infrastructure and a hotel and restaurant with internal access connectivity as well as pedestrian access from State Road 100. 5:30 p.m. at City Hall in Town Center.

A forum introducing candidates for the Palm Coast City Council in the 2018 election is hosted by Flagler County Republicans at the Palm Coast Community Center on Palm Coast Parkway (not at City Hall, as previously reported)  with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and the event starting at 6. Rep. Paul Renner is also expected to discuss the 2018 legislative session.

Flagler County Fair, with Belle City Amusement Rides, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday gates open at 5 p.m., Saturday at noon, Sunday at 1 p.m., with an endless list of rides, music, activities, exhibits and food, and the Rockin’ Ribfest all weekend. Fort Matanzas and Castillo de San Marcos Summer Camps: Fort Matanzas and Castillo de San Marcos National Monuments are pleased to announce dates for the annual summer camp program! Hands-on-History & Nature Camp at Fort Matanzas is June 4-8. Hands-on-History Camps at the Castillo are June 18-22 and June 25-29.
All three camps run Monday-Friday; from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Park Rangers, Teacher-Ranger-Teachers from St. Johns County, and knowledgeable volunteers will engage campers, ages 9-11, with interactive presentations, hands-on projects, games, and living history demonstrations. The camps cover a variety of topics, including: Archaeology, Native Americans, Nature, Spanish Exploration, Colonial Florida, and Spanish Military. Last year, students worked on projects involving pottery, leatherwork, textiles, musket drills and more! Space is limited; sign your child up soon to take advantage of this opportunity! JUSTICES EYE ‘DANGEROUS INSTRUMENTALITY’ QUESTION: The Florida Supreme Court will hear arguments in two cases, including a dispute stemming from a jobsite accident that severed a man’s finger. The man, Anthony Newton, sued Caterpillar Financial Services Corp., which leased equipment known as a “multi-terrain loader” to a hauling company. Newton’s finger was severed because of an accident involving the loader, and he alleged vicarious liability by Caterpillar because the loader was a “dangerous instrumentality.” Lower courts ruled against Newton, leading him to take the issue to the Supreme Court. (Wednesday, 9 a.m., Florida Supreme Court, 500 South Duval St., Tallahassee.)

BALLOT PROPOSALS CONSIDERED: The Style and Drafting Committee of the Florida Constitution Revision Commission is scheduled to consider a series of proposed constitutional amendments for the November ballot. The committee plays a key role in packaging and revising proposals. (Wednesday, 9 a.m., Reed Hall, House Office Building, the Capitol.)

EXPRESS LANES EYED: The Florida Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing related to a study on easing congestion on Interstate 95 in Jacksonville. The study will look at adding express lanes on the interstate from J. Turner Butler Boulevard to Atlantic Boulevard. (Wednesday, 4:30 p.m., Jacksonville Marriott, 4670 Salisbury Road, Jacksonville.)
