No school all week: it’s the Thanksgiving holiday break. And this is the last Daily Briefing until Monday, Nov. 27.

Wednesday: A meeting of the Compassionate Friends will be held at the new location, the Vitas Office at 4 North Old Kings Road (across from Kentucky Fried Chicken) in Palm Coast. The meeting, always the fourth Wednesday of the month, begins at 4:30 p.m. Please note the early starting time. The Compassionate Friends, a nonprofit self-help bereavement support organization for families that have experienced the death of a child. The meeting is open to all parents, grandparents, and siblings over age 18 who has suffered the loss of a child of any age. For more information, call John Brady at 610-428-3139. Saturday: The Ocean Center in Daytona Beach hosts the seventh annual Light up Volusia from 5 to 9 p.m. on the east plaza of the convention center. The public is invited to kick off the holiday season with this free fun-filled holiday event. Highlights of the event include the lighting of a 50-foot holiday tree at 7:15 p.m., the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Claus, holiday refreshments, children’s activities, entertainment, holiday showcases and a gingerbread house competition. Entertainment at the event includes the Beu Sisters, Crescendo Amelia, stilt walkers, the Grinch, face painters, balloon artists and more.

Saturday-Sunday: 52nd Annual Art & Craft Festival: The St. Augustine Art Association presents its outdoor art fair that has become a Thanksgiving weekend tradition – welcoming visitors, art collectors and holiday shoppers for decades. The festival features painting, pottery, jewelry, glassware, sculptures, fiber art, photography, mixed media and fine hand crafted creations from more than 150 artists. Thursday: Feet to Feast 5k: Start your Thanksgiving Day off with a 5k run or walk through scenic Palm Coast/Flagler County! The 5k course is an out and back route on the St. Joes Walkway along the intracoastal waterway. This beautiful course is hard to beat! Rotary Requests Volunteer Bands For Fantasy Lights: The Fantasy Lights event at Palm Coast’s Central Park put on by the Rotary Club of Flagler County is looking for bands to entertain in the evening. Fantasy Lights runs the entire month of December and is a popular event with families who come to see the lights display, snow and Santa. Church bands and choirs, school groups and individuals and others are invited to sign up and sing seasonal music for the holidays. Sound equipment is available but groups can also bring their own sound equipment. To sign up, contact music coordinator Carl Laundrie at [email protected] or a member of the Rotary Club of Flagler County with your contact information.
