seventh judicial circuit judge bryan rndzio — The Seventh Judicial Circuit Court welcomed Circuit Judge Bryan R. Rendzio to the bench Monday. The Seventh Judicial Circuit includes Flagler, St. Johns, Volusia and Putnam counties. Former Gov. Rick Scott appointed Rendzio to the bench in one of his last acts. Rendzio, 43, of Ponte Vedra Beach, was one of 15 applicants who vied to replace Circuit Judge Clyde E. Wolfe after his untimely death last year, and one of six candidates whose names the Judicial Nominating Commission, which interviewed the candidates, forwarded to Scott. Others included Christopher Ferebee, Mark Johnson, Mitchel Novas, MaryEllen Osterndorf, Bryan Rendzio and Garry Wood. Rendzio now presides in a unified family court division at the Richard O. Watson Judicial Center in St. Augustine. He was previously in private practice and was a shareholder of Franson, Iseley & Rendzio, a law firm specializing in complex business and construction litigation. He achieved board certification in the area of construction law. An attorney since 2001, he received his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and his law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law.

The Palm Coast City Council meets in workshop at City Hall at Town Center starting at 9 a.m. Council members will get a presentation on a planned high-tech corridor and will again discuss funding options for the financing of a renovated public works facility on U.S. 1. That plan was derailed last year when strong public opposition mounted against the council’s plan to institute an electric tax to pay for the renovation. (See “Facing Staunch Opposition, Palm Coast Council Retreats From Electric Tax To Seek Alternatives.”) The administration is again recommending an electric public service tax as part of the funding options, but only if the council goes with two of the three options presented. The council will also discuss security and cell towers.

The Daytona State College Foundation’s Wisdom in Senior Education (WISE) program: Southeast Museum of Photography, Hosseini Center, DSC’s Daytona Beach Campus, 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd. Museum Docent Phil Kalfin provides an educational tour of the Prison Nation exhibit. Refreshments will follow. The Foundation created the WISE program to provide continuing education and cultural enrichment activities to senior members of the community. Palm Coast Residents’ Survey: Palm Coast residents have until Feb. 2 to take the 2018-2019 Palm Coast Citizen Survey, which may be taken online here. The city is conducting the survey as part of its annual goal-setting process. The survey covers a variety of topics related to quality of life; city services such as stormwater drainage, street maintenance, garbage, recycling and streetlights; recreational programs and events; amenities such as parks, trails; economic growth and development; traffic flow; and crime prevention and public safety. Flagler Beach Is Open For Business: A1A Construction Update:

FlaglerLive is providing weekly updates to year-long construction on and near State Road A1A in Flagler Beach as the Florida Department of Transportation rebuilds a 1.5-mile segment from South 9th Street to South 22nd Street, and builds a sea wall at the north end of town. These updates are provided through DOT or local officials. If you have any relevant information or images, you’re welcome to email them to the editor here.

January 24 update: The project team had anticipated beginning construction this week on S.R. A1A. However, the work is pending some utility relocations, which have not yet been completed. The project is now delayed to February. According to a city official, “February 4th is the new start date when the 300 day clock starts. Road work(no detours) will start sooner at the north end beginning approximately the second week of February with detours on the southern stretch starting in late February/early March.”

The contractor has 300 days to complete the work.

U.S. 1 and Old Dixie Highway Roundabout Construction Updates:

FlaglerLive is providing weekly updates to the planned 15-month, $4.1 million construction of a roundabout at U.S. 1 and Old Dixie Highway. The project started in late January and is scheduled for completion by spring 2020.

This week southbound U.S. 1 will be reduced to one lane and be shifted slightly west onto new pavement. Southbound U.S. 1 traffic heading to Old Dixie Highway will be directed to stay on southbound U.S. 1 and make a U-turn to return to Old Dixie Highway using northbound U.S. 1. Old Dixie Highway drivers heading to southbound U.S. 1 will have to turn onto northbound U.S. 1 and make a U-turn to access southbound U.S. 1. Later this week, northbound U.S. 1 will be reduced to one lane and shifted west onto the existing southbound side of the roadway. Once this shift is made, U.S. 1 will have one lane in each direction through the project area. The speed limit will be reduced along U.S. 1 through the construction zone, and drivers are asked to be alert and use caution when traveling through the work area.

Rainfall totals from the Sunday-Monday storm: From Emergency Management’s Bob Pickering: A low pressure area developed and transited to our south and east on Sunday. The system was a little stronger than expected giving the region some rainfall. A few measured wind gusts up to 35 mph were reported along the coast. There were a few isolated reports of downed wires or tree (about 3 reports) in the eastern part of the county.

DESANTIS, CABINET CONSIDER REVENUE DIRECTOR: Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet will meet and are expected to vote on the appointment of Jim Zingale to serve as executive director of the state Department of Revenue. DeSantis has recommended Zingale, who ran the Department of Revenue under former Gov. Jeb Bush, to return to the post. Also during the meeting, DeSantis and the Cabinet members — Attorney General Ashley Moody, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried and state Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis — are expected to consider a resolution that would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Patronis proposed the recognition, which would follow the lead of President Donald Trump’s decision to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. (Tuesday, 9 a.m., Cabinet meeting room, the Capitol.)

FEMA APPEALS AT ISSUE: U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio’s office and the Federal Emergency Management Agency will hold an “appeals clinic” for people who might appeal denials of FEMA claims from Hurricane Michael.
