Free For All Fridays on WNZF: Host David Ayres welcomes County Commissioner Greg Hansen, Bill Butler, who is retiring as Palm Coast’s landscape architect and who will introduce the city’s new architect, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Mark Strobridge, who’ll talk about International Overdose Awareness Day (today), and Preston Robertson of the Florida Wildife Federation, starting just after 9 a.m.
Friday: International Overdose Awareness Day: A global event held on August 31st each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death, according to the sheriff’s office. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or had a permanent injury as a result of a drug overdose. In Flagler County, the Flagler Countywide Opioid Task Force will hold a prayer and candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. at Veterans Park in Flagler Beach. The Volusia and Flagler County YMCA will be participating in a presentation with the South Florida Opioid Crisis Mortality Reduction Project on August 31st at 9:00 AM at the Port Orange YMCA. Friday: The Flagler County Drug Court Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. in Courtroom 401 at the Flagler County courthouse.
Friday: Healthcare Provider course: 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Palm Coast Fire Station 25, 1250 Belle Terre Pkwy., Palm Coast. This basic life support program for healthcare providers course provides the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, administer CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, effective and timely manner. Examples of those who may need this certification are: EMS personnel, physician assistants, dentists, nurses, respiratory therapists and others. Saturday: Vitas Chaplain Carmen Royster-Caldwell is coordinating a Moms in Prayer event “to pray for our children, teachers, support staff and the school authorities,” at 10 a.m. at Holland Park in Palm Coast, Pavilion 2, “for the protection and success of our children and our schools,” in Royster-Caldwell’s words. Yes, I like Nate as a person – I told him so many times and we used to joke how we loved each other but but I also told him many many times during the past 8 years how and what was needed from him as our area commissioner. He never listened and never once held a town hall meeting in our area – he never supported any of our communities needs even though I pleaded with him and he was well aware that if he didn’t ‘shape up’ I was going to run to replace him. Being a nice guy is not enough to be a good commissioner. Nate is a hell of a nice guy but he was a lousy commissioner in my well known opinion. He was asked for help many many times but never listened. Now he is paying the price but heaven forbid Joe Mullins who has never done a damn thing other than campaign for a job which pays less than what he has already spent replaces him. I’ve seen him a 2 meetings in 16 years – he hadn’t even run for Georgia state house in 2015 – and in less than 3 years he wants to tell me what to do? No way Jose…

Sorry Nate – had you done a good job, had you been a better listener, had you not voted to buy the ‘infested dump’ and even promote a 24 hour all cash – 24 hour lit pot shop just 50 feet from my neighbors you would still be our commissioner. Yes Nate, my heart is with you but my conscience is clear – I gave you over 6 years of support until I simply gave up … God speed – you paid the price but OMG at what possible cost to the rest of us… time will tell

Jane debate Mullins. He stated that he supports Home Rule. But the bottom line is he will not protect our single family communities from transient public lodging establishment businesses, AKA vacation rentals. This guy is aligning himself with Travis Hutson. Hutson proved this past legislation session that he is in favor of State takeover home rule authority as it relates to vacation rentals. The state already caused damage to our communities in 2011 when they passed Senate bill 883 by removing our local property zoning preventing our local governments from prohibiting these businesses from operating next door to your homes. This use is incompatible and should have only been permitted in areas zoned for public lodging.

You bet vacation rentals are totally incompatible with ‘single family’ . ‘Vacation rental’ and SINGLE family are 100% incompatible in my opinion as a real estate broker and as a ‘single’ family homeowner who relishes my legal right to ‘quiet peace and enjoyment’ of my primary full time residence. To the bone heads in Tallahassee ( my opinion) who support legalizing invasions of our peaceful neighborhoods are not only irresponsible in attempting to force commercial use of our homes upon us they obviously are well aware that their greed for tax free income ( you bet that’s what it is all about) will force many hotels to go out of business .
My ongoing opposition will be even more vocal if I am able to address those bone heads in Tallahassee as a Commissioner next time ( which for sure there is) they try to shove it down our throats again. Thanks once again to Al Hadeed , the most active county attorney in the state of Florida for his ongoing unstoppable efforts to put an end to this shark infested gang’s shenanigans ( my opinion)
