In Court: A jury trial enters its fourth day in the case of Jonathan Canales, who faces an attempted first-degree murder charge. He is accused of shooting his now-29-year-old ex-girlfriend in the neck in their Mondex trailer four years ago as the victim’s three children slept nearby. Canales has pleaded innocence, claiming Tiffany Norman shot herself. The trial begins with jury selection before Circuit Judge Terence Perkins in Courtroom 401 at 1 p.m. at the Flagler County courthouse. The Inspired Mic, Palm Coast’s most daring and unpredictable open mic event, is scheduled for its monthly edition at its new venue at the Hidden Treasures Restaurant, 820 Moody Ln, Flagler Beach. Each month some of the most creative, innovative performances a person could ever hope to experience take place at The Inspired Mic. 14 presenters each month pull out slices of talent and genius to entertain the audience. Each presenter gets 7 minutes to present on a very eclectic blend of their genius. Hidden Treasures Restaurant, 820 Moody Ln, Flagler Beach (under the bridge). Doors open at 6 p.m. and presenters begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 advance, available at theinspiredmicus.com, or $15 at the door. Jayson Meyer, an entrepreneur, health-care executive and founder of Synergy Billing in Daytona Beach, is the featured speaker during the fall installment of the L. Gale Lemerand Entrepreneurial Speaker Series hosted by the Small Business Development Center and Daytona State College. FPL DEAL ON TABLE: The state Public Service Commission will hold a hearing on a proposed deal in which Florida Power & Light would buy Vero Beach’s city-run utility and charge FPL rates to Vero Beach customers. The Public Service Commission on June 5 gave approvals needed for the deal, which FPL said at the time it hoped to close Oct. 1. But challenges emerged, spurring regulators to hold the hearing.
