In Court: A hearing is scheduled for a possible plea by Sean Stern, the ex-Professional Sports Pathways Academy in Palm Coast coach arrested in October 2016 on molestation charges. He initially faced two counts of molesting children ages 12 to 16. Three counts were added on Oct. 25, 2017. The counts cite three different children, with incidents in which Stern is alleged to have touched them and or forced or enticed them to touch him. The three additional counts refer to incidents alleged to have taken place before or after school in the academy’s parking lot, which would have been at the old Palm Harbor shopping center (the academy is defunct), in a back room during school, and at Stern’s apartment in Flagler Beach. Each count is a second-degree felony. He has been held at the county jail on $800,000 bond. The hearing is scheduled for 9L:30 a.m. before Circuit Judge Dennis Craig in Courtroom 401 at the Flagler County courthouse.
In Court: Jonathan Canales, 30, accused of shooting his wife in the neck in their Mondex home and denying her medical attention in 2014, is scheduled for a pre-trial on an aggravated battery with a firearm charge (downgraded from attempted murder) before Circuit Judge Dennis Craig in Courtroom 401 at the Flagler County courthouse at 1:30 p.m. The case has long been delayed as Canales had previously been determined to be incompetent to stand trial. This hearing has been continued eight times since February 2017. Case 2014CF000956).
The Public Safety Coordinating Council meets at 8:45 a.m. at the Emergency Operations Center in Bunnell. Members will hear a presentation on the Youth Behavioral Health Planning Project by Chet Bell and Carrie Baird.
The Palm Coast Code Enforcement Board meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 201 W. Moody Blvd., Chambers Meeting Room.

Commissioner of Agriculture Forum: Meet and Greet candidates for Florida Commissioner of Agriculture, 5 to 9 p.m. at Pine Lakes Golf Club, 400 Pine Lakes Pkwy, Palm Coast, presented by the Flagler County Republican Executive Committee. Forum will include a Q&A. Matt Caldwell, Baxter Troutman and Denise Grimsley have confirmed attendance.
Take Back the Night: Katie Koestner, founder and executive director of the Take Back the Night Foundation, presents the keynote address at an event designed to empower victims and help end sexual violence and harassment. Stetson University’s Take Back the Night event begins at 8 p.m. in McMahan Hall, 417 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand. Following the address, attendees will move to Stetson’s Palm Court for a speak out, rally and candlelight moment of reflection. The event is free and open to the public.
Stetson Guitar Ensemble: The Stetson University Guitar Ensemble’s spring recital program will include various combinations of guitars in performances of works by Joaquin Nin, Andrew York, and Francis Kleynjans. Also featured on the program will be Roland Dyens’ Tango en Skai for guitar and string quartet, Mark Houghton’s Guitarchestra for 10 guitars and Camille Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre for 10 guitars. 7:30 p.m. Lee Chapel in Elizabeth Hall, 421 N. Small Business: Wes Henderson, co-founder and chief innovation officer of Angels Envy, a family-owned and operated distillery based out of Louisville, Ky., is the featured speaker of the L. Gale Lemerand Entrepreneurial Speaker Series hosted by the Small Business Development Center and Daytona State College. The event, free and open to the public, kicks off at 9:30 a.m. in the Mori Hosseini Center on the college’s Daytona Beach Campus, 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd. Henderson’s vision to create a one-of-a-kind beverage with his late father introduced the world to Angel’s Envy. His son, Kyle, would later join them, making Angel’s Envy the work of three generations of Hendersons. As the chief innovation officer, Wes Henderson shepherds Angel’s Envy into the future as the small-batch distillery continues to innovate, grow and craft some of the finest, award-winning whiskeys in the world. During the event, up to three promising students interested in entrepreneurship will each receive a $1,000 L. Gale Lemerand Entrepreneurial Speaker Series Scholarship. Navy Bombing in the Ocala National Forest: Navy training schedules indicate that inert and live bombing will take place at the Pinecastle Range Complex located in the Ocala National Forest this week. Bombings at times can be heard in Flagler-Palm Coast. The bombings are scheduled as follows:
Wednesday: 10 a.m. to noon and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., inert.
Thursday: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., live.
During bombing periods wildlife may be temporarily displaced. Use extra caution when driving through the Ocala National forest and surrounding areas. Secure any items around your residence that could attract wildlife. Always be mindful of larger animals including black bears and practice bearwise <http://myfwc.com/wildlifehabitats/managed/bear/wise/neighborhood/> measures. Twenty-four Palm Coast residents graduated this month from the Palm Coast Citizen’s Academy, a comprehensive program designed to educate interested residents about the operation and workings of their City government. The graduating class – the 42nd in the program’s history – spent five weeks learning about City departments and visiting City Hall, main Fire Station 25, and Water Treatment Plant No. 3. The class also attended a Palm Coast City Council meeting together. City Manager Jim Landon kicked off the Citizen’s Academy with an opening session titled, “Governing the City,” providing background on Palm Coast’s incorporation, City Charter, the Council-Manager form of government, and overall information about the City. Participants in the Citizen’s Academy received an overview on every City department and met City Council members, department directors and many other City employees. Mayor Milissa Holland did a presentation on development projects – both public and private – currently under way in Palm Coast. This session’s graduates were Joseph Benincasa, Martha Butler, Katherine Curtis, Danny Danforth, Sharon Danforth, Lisa D’Andrea, Virginia Elgin, Gertrude Hannah, Bertha Harrison, Ryan Kendall, Emily Kirshaw, William Mania, Cindi Marcuccio, Mike Marcuccio, Tina Mongiardo, Becky Osgood, Tom Osgood, Ketia Silveira, James Smeaton, Sally Smeaton, Betty Wiersma, Dale Wiersma, Debby Winans and Mike Winans. The Citizen’s Academy meets once a week, usually on Monday evenings, for five straight weeks. The course is free and registration is limited to approximately 30 Palm Coast citizens per session. The academy is held three times a year. The next session is already full, but the class starting Sept. 17 has spots available.
