In court: Chris Thomas Miller, now 38, a former youth pastor accused of molesting teenagers who stayed in his guest bedroom at his house on Rose Place in Palm Coast in 2005, and found guilty–he pleaded–in 2006 on one count of lewd and lascivious battery, appears before Circuit Judge Dennis Craig on a probation violation, an additional felony. Miller served 43 months in state prison but remains on sex offender probation. He is now a resident of 1136 Mudrock Blvd. in Orlando, and was arrested on Nov. 2. He’s been at the Flagler County jail, on no bond, since. His probation violation hearing has twice been continued.

flagler county democratic executive committeeThe Palm Coast Democratic Club‘s monthly meeting’s featured guest is Republican Nate McLaughlin, the county commission member, who may discuss safety, taxes, growth and. The club is interested in hearing from the commission’s most “moderate” member, in the words of the club president. The club meets in the African American Cultural Society Center 4422 N. US HWY 1, Palm Coast, at 7 p.m.

All Flagler County elementary schools are holding spring conferences Thursday and Friday.

The Belle Terre Elementary PTO meets in the school’s media center at 5 p.m.

Flagler Audubon Society meets at 6:30 p.m. with a Chapter activity update and social session. Formal program begins at 7 p.m. in meeting rooms A & B at Florida Hospital Flagler on SR 100 just west of I-95.

Announcements:

East MalaCompra Road and Malacompra Park closed for dunes restoration: The easternmost section of MalaCompra Road will be temporarily closed as Flagler County’s dune restoration project moves south. Sand deliveries will begin Monday morning (Feb. 26). Flagler County has just completed its fifth week of work on the project, and completed the work at Washington Oaks Garden State Park. Revegetation of the recently shaped dunes is expected to occur over the next few months. “This next phase of dunes restoration construction will start at Bay Drive Park near Sea Colony and move southward to the MalaCompra access point,” said County Engineer Faith Alkhatib, who is overseeing the projects, which will cost upwards of $25 million. High tides, daylight, and weather affect the length of the workday.

Floor sessions: The Senate is scheduled to hold a floor session at 10 a.m., the House at 10:30 a.m.

FSU HOLDS TOWN HALLS ON NAMINGS: The Florida State University President’s Advisory Panel on University Namings and Recognitions will continue a series of town-hall forums. University President John Thrasher formed the panel to review and make recommendations about university policies dealing with campus names and markers. (Thursday, 9 a.m., Florida State University, Roberts Hall, 425 West Jefferson St., Tallahassee. Also, 3 p.m., Black Student Union House, 921 West Jefferson St., Tallahassee.)

NEW FPL PLANT AT ISSUE: The state Public Service Commission will meet and decide whether to give a key approval to a plan by Florida Power & Light to build a new power plant in Broward County. The commission will consider whether to approve what is known as a “determination of need” for the plant, which would replace two old generating units. (Thursday, 9:30 a.m., Betty Easley Conference Center, 4075 Esplanade Way, Tallahassee.)

SUPREME COURT RELEASES OPINIONS: The Florida Supreme Court is scheduled to release its weekly opinions. (Thursday, 11 a.m.)

UNF PRESIDENT CONTRACT AT ISSUE: The University of North Florida Board of Trustees will consider an employment agreement with David Szymanski, who has been selected to become the school’s new president. (Thursday, 3:30 p.m., University of North Florida, Adam W. Herbert University Center, 12000 Alumni Dr., Jacksonville.)

UNF, STATE COLLEGE TRUSTEES MEET: The University of North Florida Board of Trustees will hold a joint workshop with trustees of Florida State College at Jacksonville. (Thursday, 4:30 p.m., University of North Florida, Adam W. Herbert University Center, 12000 Alumni Dr., Jacksonville.)
