This is Fire Safety Week. It is also homecoming week at Flagler Palm Coast High School.
The Flagler County Land Acquisition Committee meets at 3:30 p.m. in the First Floor Conference Room at the government Services Building, 1769 E Moody Blvd., Bldg 2, Bunnell.
The Flagler County Library Board of Trustees meets at 4:30 p.m. at the Flagler County Library, 2500 Palm Coast Parkway NW, Palm Coast.
The Bunnell City Commission meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 201 West Moody Boulevard, Bunnell. This will be the first meeting with new City Manager Alvin Jackson. Commissioners will hear a report from its Charter Review Advisory Committee’s recommended charter amendments, which would go before voters at the city’s March 5, 2019 Election. Commissioners also hear an appeal from the planning board regarding the granting of a special exception for a business to use shipping containers as permanent buildings at 3360 Steel Rail Drive in Bunnell.
Palm Coast Road Closure through Oct. 15: The City of Palm Coast plans to temporarily close a section of Wellington Drive – from Village Circle (the Wellington/Village intersection farthest from Pine Lakes Parkway) to Lago Vista Place – beginning Monday, Oct. 1, and continuing through Oct. 15. This temporary road closure is necessitated by a City project to upgrade a utility pump station. This temporary road closure will be 24 hours a day during the project. Detours will be in place to help neighborhood residents and other motorists reach their destinations. For more information, call Customer Service at 386-986-2360.

TRUMP SPEAKS IN ORLANDO: President Donald Trump will speak Monday at the International Association of Chiefs of Police annual convention at the Orange County Convention Center. The White House had not released full details of the visit as of Friday afternoon.

DEUTCH TOURS ‘KING TIDE’ IN BROWARD: U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., will tour an area of Fort Lauderdale affected by flooding from what is known as “king tide.” (Monday, 9:30 a.m., corner of East Las Olas Boulevard and Southeast 25th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale.)

TAXWATCH DISCUSSES TAX AMENDMENTS: Florida TaxWatch will hold a media conference call to discuss two proposed constitutional amendments — known as Amendment 1 and Amendment 2 — on the November ballot. Amendment 1 would increase the state’s homestead property-tax exemption, while Amendment 2 would keep in place a property-tax cap for commercial and other non-homestead properties. DEADLINE FOR SUPREME COURT APPLICATIONS: Applications are due by 5 p.m. Monday to fill three seats on the Florida Supreme Court. The seats will open in January when longtime justices Barbara Pariente, R. Fred Lewis and Peggy Quince face a mandatory retirement age. The Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission will review the applicants before making recommendations for appointment.
