County voters could decide to levy a special property tax to pay for public school security under a measure filed Tuesday in the House. The measure, HB 873, would allow a county commission to establish a special taxing district to pay for school security and mental health services. Taxes of up to 0.5 mils or 50 cents for each $1,000 of assessed property value, could be levied only if voters in the county approve the tax increase in a referendum. Sponsored by Rep. Jim Waldman, D-Coconut Creek, the bill mirrors a Senate proposal (SB 514) filed earlier this month by Sen. Eleanor Sobel, D-Hollywood. The measures come as lawmakers debate whether heightened security is needed at Florida’s public schools and who pays for it in the wake of the tragic shooting deaths at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. that took the lives of 20 students.–News Service of Florida

well it should only be a tax people with children in school should pay , just like any other school taxes should only be aimed at people with children in school , why should people with no children have to foot these bills its unconstitutional , especially in Palm Coast where these crooked counsel members blow money you`ve paid for one thing on stuff you don t need , then expect you to pay again, this place is a hot bed of thievery with their mismanagement of funds, and 52 rigged red camera lights, they are going to push someone too far real soon , I just hope I`m there to see it.

for those that think taxes should be increased to pay for extra school security, be careful.if you agree then later on the city will come up with another excuse to again come up with another reason to increase our property taxes.as you can see the water bill is already approved for an increase.and yes, the city is forcing the palm coast residence out specifically with the 52 red light cameras.this could potentially cause some drivers to either stop short or try to make the yellow light before turning red to avoid receiving a traffic fine.this could increase vehicle accidents, thereby, an increase in automobile insurance. like always, it is about the money and nothing else matters. this is corruption at its best.
some points; why h/owners that have no kids in school have to pay school tax – why do renters and/or home owners need a permit to conduct a garage sale on private property.please note ,a renter is in control of said property so long as he/she acquires permission from the landlord from respective property.finally, I think the AAA should conduct some research as the correct timing regarding the yellow traffic light before it turns red.meaning is it legal or calibrated correctly.

Sorry but .50 cents a thousand is too much even for us.
Have first the Fed, Congress and Senate pass the Universal Background Check, the high number bullets magazine and the assault weapons ban!

Or tax weapons and background checks for them high enough to provide schools security.

What about the Sandy Hook Newtown Families suing also the estate of the mother of Mr. Lanza for their irreparable losses? After all, she was in life and death responsible for the weapons her son utilized in the massacre as she even took her son to target shooting ranges.
