Blasting SB6: Teacher Rally Photo Gallery

Debbie Kryspin, a second-grade teacher at Wadsworth Elementary and a Flagler County teacher since 1993, explained a proposal from Florida lawmakers that would base bonus pay for teachers largely on their students’ standardized test scores: “It’s like telling a medical doctor that we’re going to pay you less because you have more patients with cancer than this other doctor. It’s out of his control, he can’t do anything about that. I have no control over my children and the homes they come from, the experience they’ve been given, all the events in their lives that they’ve seen, I have no control over that, and there’s a lot more factors in a child’s development than just the teacher in the classroom.”

Kryspin was among the 200-some teachers and supporters protesting the Florida legislature’s proposal to revamp teacher pay, collective bargaining and local school district authority. She was also one of the organizers of the April 14 rally in the heart of Palm Coast. Read a full account of the rally. See also an interview with Flagler County School Superintendent Bill Delbrugge, shortly after the rally. Below is a photo gallery of the rally.
