Suspect in Thursday’s Leidel Drive Shooting Arrested by Marshal Service in Volusia

May 21, 2011 | FlaglerLive | 12 Comments

William Copeland.

William Copeland, the suspect wanted in the non-fatal shooting of a Palm Coast father of two in his Leidel Drive home in northwest Palm Coast Thursday, was arrested this evening in Volusia County, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

The federal Marshal’s Service carried out the arrest as part of the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Flagler County Sheriff’s crime suppression team, according to the sheriff’s office. Copeland, 20, of 29A Bunkerview Drive in Palm Coast, was being booked in Volusia County pending his transfer to the Flagler County jail.

Copeland is accused of shooting Accursio Venezia, 41, around midnight during the night of Thursday to Friday, while Accursio was in his kitchen at his two-level home on Leidle Drive. Accursio was shot in the shoulder through the bay glass door leading to the patio in back of the house. His injury was non-life-threatening. Three .38 caliber shell casings were recovered from the patio.

Copeland is the father, with Accursio’s teen-age daughter, of Accursio’s granddaughter, though he has two previous arrests stemming from his violation of injunctions, and a neighbor had reported that earlier in the week, before the shooting, there had been police activity at the Accursio house.

Copeland was questioned and released on Thursday, when investigators believed another man, Anthony Wiggins, was responsible for the shooting.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office was not releasing further information about the arrest. For more information about this story, read the details of the shooting here.

As the old saying goes “you ain’t seen nothing yet” I understand that because of the current glut of empty single family homes on the market, it is rumored the powers to be, want to move to more of the multi-family type complex.

It’s all about greed, greed which could well turn more neighborhoods into so called blighted areas, all accompanied of course with increasing crime rates.

This guy has been stalking and threatening women since he went to Matanzas High School. I told a friend he will not stop until he kills somebody. He just got out of jail for stalking. Now he shoots into someones house and nearly kills them. I guarantee he will be out of jail within a year.

Duffman said I guarantee he will be out in a year. Not with Judge Zambrano on the bench, Copeland is gone for a very long time.

I have known this guy for a very long time and he has not went to jail for stalking. He went for violating injunctions can mean he went to see his daughter and thats violating being around the mother. Judge Z won’t play with this but I dont believe he did this. Hes a good guy!

What a great guy he is for shooting someone… Wonderful!!!… Every piece of evidence points to the obvious.. His own friends ratted him out, he also had gun powder on his clothing… Also his Alibi was that Anthony Wiggins did the shooting on his own without his knowledge… so how did he get gun powder on him if his story was the truth?… He has a criminal record so he is no angel… He deserves to spend a nice long life in jail.

Melissa, he is not a nice guy. He has stalked and tormented his girlfriend for years and now put a bullet in her father. If you think he is a nice guy, he has conned you too.
