steve cole — Chief Steve Cole of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office graduated Friday, April 6th from the National Institute of Corrections Executive Leadership Program. Chief Cole is the Division Chief responsible for the Court and Detention Services Division. You must be invited to attend the class and is limited to 30 jail administrators or Wardens from across the United States. The graduates completed the 32-hour program in Aurora, Colorado at the National Corrections Academy. During the training the graduates discussed topics like institutional culture, managing within a hierarchy, budget management, ethical decision making, and media relations. The graduates were also given the opportunity to enhance their personal skills in areas essential to effective leadership and administration within a correctional institution. The cost of the training, including all travel, hotel and meal costs, was paid by the federal government. “I’m very proud the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has a graduate of the National Institute of Corrections for the very first time,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “We congratulate Chief Cole on this achievement.”

The Palm Coast City Council meets at 9 a.m. at City Hall in Town Center. The council is expected to approve a new schedule of transportation impact fees that developers pay one time to defray the cost of transportation caused by new development. Council members are also expected to discuss a “shortlist” of executive search firms in the elongated, two-year search for a replacement for City Manager Jim Landon.

The Flagler County School Board meets in worskhop at 1 p.m. in Training Room 3 on the third floor of the Government Services Building, Bunnell, when it is expected to discuss its proposed and vastly expanded contract with the Flagler County Sheriff for a doubling of school deputies. The proposal was not posted with the school board’s agenda for the meeting. The board meets again for an action meeting at 6 p.m. in board chambers at the GSB, when the board will consider hiring a Vermont-based company called Social Sentinel, for $18,500, to provide monitoring of students’ social media accounts. The Flagler Beach City Commission and the city’s Economic Development Task Force hold a joint workshop at 4 p.m. at City Hall.

The Bunnell Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 201 West Moody Boulevard.

Tuesday and Wednesday: Auditions for the 2018 Spotlight on Flagler County Youth Talent Show for youths in grades K-12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flagler County Youth Center, 5510 State Road 100, on the Flagler Palm Coast High School campus. If you can sing, dance, play an instrument, or have any special talent, please plan to audition. The actual show is on May 24 at the Flagler Auditorium. Marineland Lecture Series, by the GTM Research Reserve and Marineland Dolphin Adventure. Kenneth Rainer and Terran McGinnis will be sharing different ways that the community can get involved with projects happening at Marineland Dolphin Adventure and GTM. 10 a.m., Marineland Dolphin Adventure, 9600 Oceanshore Blvd. The series is designed to help learn more about your coastal natural world. The Online auction to benefit the G.W. Carver Center in Bunnell is now open. The purpose of the auction is to raise money to go back into the development of the Carver Center. The Flagler County School Board and Flagler County Government have both owned and managed the facility over the years. Due to budgetary constraints it appeared it would be necessary to close the facility in 2010. A coalition was born to save the Gym and restore it as a community center. CONSTITUTION REVISION COMMISSION MEETS: The Florida Constitution Revision Commission is scheduled to meet as it finalizes proposed constitutional amendments for the November ballot. The commission is considering a dozen ballot proposals that embody 24 potential changes to the Florida Constitution. If the measures win support from at least 22 of the 37 commission members, they will be placed on the Nov. 6 general-election ballot. (Tuesday, 9 a.m., Senate chamber, the Capitol.)
