Flagler schools: Today is a professional learning day for Flagler County school teachers, ahead of Friday’s resumption of classes.
The Flagler County Commission meets at 9 a.m. at the Government Services Building, Bunnell. Commissioners are expected to lower vacation-rental registration and inspection fees and award a slew of grants from the Tourist Development tax to a variety of concerns, including $150,000 to the Town of Marineland for a new phase of its marina.
The Florida National Guard at Camp Blanding hosts a ceremony honoring Korean War veterans, with H.E. Cho Yoon-Je, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, as the keynote speaker, at 3 p.m. Camp Blanding Museum, 5629 SR 16 West Stark, Fla.
The Flagler County Veterans Advisory Council meets at 4 p.m. in the First Floor Conference room of the Government Services Building, 1769 E. Moody Blvd., Bunnell.
Navy Bombing in the Ocala National Forest: Navy training schedules indicate that inert and live bombing will take place at the Pinecastle Range Complex located in the Ocala National Forest this week. Bombings at times can be heard in Flagler-Palm Coast. The bombings are scheduled as follows:
Monday: Live and inert bombing from 10:15 a.m. to 1 a.m., with live bombing ending around 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday: Live and inert bombing from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., with live bombing ending around 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday: Live and inert bombing from 10:15 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday: Live and inert bombing from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m., with live bombing ending around 7:30 p.m.
Friday: Live and inert bombing from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m., with live bombing ending around 7:30 p.m.
Saturday: Live and inert bombing from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m., with live bombing ending around 7:30 p.m.
Sunday: No bombing.
During bombing periods wildlife may be temporarily displaced. Use extra caution when driving through the Ocala National forest and surrounding areas. Secure any items around your residence that could attract wildlife. Always be mindful of larger animals including black bears and practice bearwise
Through Aug. 17: Florida Department of Health in Flagler is offering free back-to-school immunizations July 30 through August 17. Parents and guardians are asked to bring their child’s immunization record, insurance card, and a photo ID. The clinic will be open Monday through Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. No appointment is necessary. The DOH-Flagler is located at 301 Dr, Carter Blvd. in Bunnell. Roundabout at US1 and Matanzas Woods Parkway Public Hearing: The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding a public information meeting about a proposed roundabout at the intersection of US1 and Matanzas Woods Parkway. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 9, at the Palm Coast Community Center. It will be held as an open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Participants will have an opportunity to view project displays, speak with project team representatives and provide comments. There is no formal presentation or formal verbal comment period on the agenda. The proposed roundabout design accommodates two lanes in each direction on U.S. 1, and at least one lane in each direction along Matanzas Woods Parkway. The speed limit will be reduced to 30 mph through the roundabout. The project also includes updating pedestrian features at the intersection. The goal of these proposed improvements is to improve safety at the intersection. Public participation is sought without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability or family status. The Community Chorus of Palm Coast will begin rehearsals for their winter concert on Sept 4.
