Saturday Night Films at Marineland Dolphin Adventure: As part of our “80 Years of Animal Love and Care” celebration every Saturday night in June, we’ll be showing outdoor movies filmed at Marineland. All are welcome to visit the station site during the 24 hour event and, under the supervision of a licensed radio amateur, operate one of several stations, learn more about ham radio and observe communications under simulated emergency conditions. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday:Education and Social Justice Conference: a three-day multi-disciplinary conference hosted by Bethune-Cookman University focusing on judicial sentencing disparities, wealth disparities, school safety, ethics, media representation and other topics. Florida Times Union reporters Benjamin Conarck and Topher Sanders, whose award-winning investigative series “Walking While Black” found pedestrian enforcement in Jacksonville and throughout Florida to be racially disproportionate, are among those slated to present. The reporters found those ticketed, and chronicled the impact on their driver’s licenses, credit rating, and their day-to-day ability to work and raise families notorious for its lack of adequate pedestrian infrastructure. A judges and lawyers track will critique a recent sentencing disparities study brought to the forefront by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. The conference will also feature panel discussions and dialogue focused on restorative justice, pre-arrest diversion and treatment for Florida juveniles and adults, ways to increase family engagement through parental involvement, educational access for students with disabilities, human trafficking and more. Individual registration is $100, including meals.

Road closure planned on County Road 205 starting Monday, June 25: Flager County Public Works Department is planning temporary road and lane closures, as it upgrades culverts, widens, and resurfaces County Road 205. County Road 205, June 25 to July 13 – will be closed west of Espanola and CR13. A southerly detour will run along US Route 1 and State Road 100. Intermittent single-lane closures will continue on CR 205 in the coming months. Flagmen and signage will be in place to assist with traffic flow. AUTHOR SCHWEIZER SPEAKS AT TIGER BAY: Author Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute, will speak to the Panhandle Tiger Bay Club. Schweizer will speak on the topic, “The New Corruption: Why It’s Worse Than You Think.” (Friday, noon, Skopelos at New World, 600 South Palafox St., Pensacola.)

APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR FINANCIAL REGULATOR: Gov. Rick Scott and the Florida Cabinet will accept applications through June 22 from candidates to become commissioner of the state Office of Financial Regulation. Commissioner Drew Breakspear recently announced that he would leave the post, under pressure from state Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis. The position is advertised to pay a salary of $120,000 to $140,000 a year.

DEMOCRATIC CHAIR SPEAKS IN LAKE COUNTY: Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Terrie Rizzo is slated to speak at a Lake County Democratic Party breakfast. (Saturday, 8:30 a.m., Leesburg Community Center, 201 East Dixie Ave., Leesburg.)
