Needs for the homeless in palm Coast, Bunnell, Flagler Beach and the county are great: Bunnell's Sheltering Tree has been tending to cold-weather sheltering since 2008, and providing weekly meals since then, as well as basic necessities. Curches in Flagler Beach and Palm Coast do their share as well, as has Michele Seyfert, above, who last month began a weekly evening meal for the homeless at the Palm Coast United Methodist Church off Belle Terre Parkway. The number of homeless fell to 104 people in January, compared to 104 the previous year, as the economy has improved. But the lack of affordable rents remain a challenge.

By 11 this morning some 20 cars were turned away from the Flagler County Airport as a truckload of Farm Share food began running out, underscoring persistent needs in post-hurricane relief in Flagler.

Nadine King had the idea of a Christmas charity ball back in the 1980s. She revived it in Palm Coast last year, helping 54 families better realize their Christmas. King hopes to double that number this year.
