Campaigning in Iowa, DeSantis Says Culture War Offensive Will Help GOP Elections

March 13, 2023 | FlaglerLive | 20 Comments

An apparently unaware Gov. Ron DeSantis, in Iowa to defend his culture war offensives, holds up what appears to be a snowflake gifted to him. A closer look reveals that the snowflake's arms are calligraphic versions of the word "Fascist." An Iowa Facebook page posted the picture with the following caption: "Little D Santis gets owned. My friend makes snowflakes to give to politicians who come to Iowa - there are special messages for odious Republicans--please look at the snowflake carefully šŸ¤£šŸ˜‰"

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told Iowa Republicans Friday that standing strong in the culture wars around issues like education, criminal justice and health care in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic will help their party win elections.

Democrats’ South Carolina Primary Move: Diversity and Moderation Over Tradition

February 5, 2023 | FlaglerLive | 6 Comments

Caucusgoers stand beneath the sign for the South Carolina delegation at the Democratic National Convention.

Biden said early nominating states should reflect the diversity of the party and nation and that time-consuming caucuses, like those held in Iowa, should no longer be a part of the process because they disadvantage hourly workers and others who can’t take the required time away from work.

DeSantis Invokes Bible, Gun Analogies and Anti-Wokism in Inaugural Pitched to Ambitions

Inaugural grounds included all the trappings of an event with more than itself in mind: Ron DeSantis is widely believed to be preparing a presidential run. (Danielle J. Brown)

The governor vowed to ā€œstand our groundā€ in defense of low taxes, parental rights in education, ā€œlaw and order,ā€ and more — although Democrats, independents, and overall progressives in Florida would likely beg to differ. The theme and tenor of the speech suggests that DeSantis spoke to a larger goal: running for president.

The challenges have come amid supervisors’ years-long battle to convince voters that, contra Trump lies, election processes aren’t rigged, an issue that took root and spread as Trump and maga supporters continue to maintain that Joe Biden’s 2020 victory was fraudulent.
