“Designers, architects and planners have to take account of mankind’s increasing size. When the new Yankee Stadium was opened in 2009, it contained 4,000 fewer seats than the previous stadium, opened in 1923, because wider seats were required to cope with the increased average size of the fans. The older seats had been 18–22in (46–56cm) wide; today they are 19–24in (48–61cm). Similar data, apparently trivial, is available from all corners of modern American life, as institutions and businesses seek to accommodate the expanding size of the American people. Ferries in Puget Sound have also increased the width of their seats; ambulances in Colorado have been fitted with winches to handle excessively heavy patients. Even undertakers have had to respond by making larger coffins to accommodate obese corpses. A standard coffin is 24in (61cm) wide, but an extra-large version of 37in (97cm) is now available.”

A meeting of the Compassionate Friends is scheduled at the Vitas Office at 4 North Old Kings Road (across from Kentucky Fried Chicken) in Palm Coast. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. The Compassionate Friends, a nonprofit self-help bereavement support organization for families that have experienced the death of a child. The meeting is open to all parents, grandparents, and siblings over age 18 who has suffered the loss of a child of any age. For more information, call John Brady at 610-428-3139. ATTORNEY GENERAL CANDIDATES SPAR IN COURT: Leon County Circuit Judge Karen Gievers will hear arguments in a case challenging the election qualification of Ryan Torrens, a Democratic candidate for attorney general. Torrens’ opponent in the Aug. 28 Democratic primary, Rep. Sean Shaw of Tampa, filed the lawsuit, alleging that Torrens used an illegal contribution to pay for an election-qualifying fee. As a result, Shaw contends that Torrens should be decertified as a candidate. Torrens has described the lawsuit as “frivolous” and has filed a counterclaim alleging libel. (Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., Leon County Courthouse, 301 South Monroe St., Tallahassee.)

God help us with the canvassing of the absentee ballots as just this morning there was an alert in our cell phone that the Democratic party denounces in Florida the hacking of the candidates list on the ballots and I see very unusual 4 sheriff cruisers posted and sheriff officers guarding our Community Center polling place in Clubhouse Drive and Palm Coast Parkway around noon!

Seems to me a “Smart” town is one that keeps their storm drains clear, and let’s the people worry about how and where to charge their electric cars………Which by the way requires many Petro-Chemicals to manufacture, that pesky petroleum again……Then there are the multi-million dollar Wind turbines in Buffalo NY that no longer work and will probably never cause the company who made them went out of business and parts are “proprietary” and NOT available, Is that a smart town?
