Free For All Fridays on WNZF: Host David Ayres welcomes members of the new Flagler Tiger Bay Club and Palm Coast Council member Nick Klufas, among others, and will discuss the Palm Coast Observer’s primary endorsements with Observer Editor Brian McMillan, starting a little after at 9 a.m.
Friday: The Flagler County School District serves an appreciation breakfast for its bus drivers, among the district’s lowest-paid employees, at 8:30 a.m. at Buddy Taylor Middle School’s cafeteria. The district is looking for new bus drivers.
Friday: Lunch N’ Lecture Series, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE. This month: “Senior Crime” with Sgt. Michael Lutz of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Saturday: 
Enrollment Day at Daytona State College, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the college’s Daytona Beach Campus. The day gives students an opportunity to join the Falcon community and complete everything from admission to registration. Students start by completing a Daytona State application, then meet with an Admissions Advisor and Financial Aid Counselor, take an assessment test (if applicable), meet with an Academic Advisor, and then lock in their schedule. The Daytona State Financial Aid Office will be open to assist with college education financing and will provide assistance to complete the federal financial aid application (FAFSA). Academic Advisors will also be available to talk about unique academic programs such as Quanta-Honors College which offers an alternative to regular college classes for highly motivated students. Through Aug. 17: Florida Department of Health in Flagler is offering free back-to-school immunizations July 30 through August 17. Parents and guardians are asked to bring their child’s immunization record, insurance card, and a photo ID. The clinic will be open Monday through Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. No appointment is necessary. The DOH-Flagler is located at 301 Dr, Carter Blvd. in Bunnell. Whether seating a young person about to enjoy their first live theatre performance or helping a family of six find seats during opening night excitement, ushers ensure that the Flagler Playhouse patrons enjoy the very best experience possible during their time with us. They are also responsible for serving concessions during intermission. Ushers are needed for all performances. Ushers should arrive 1 to 2 hours before show times and should expect to remain through intermission with two staying throughout the entire performance. MEDICAL MARIJUANA LICENSES AT ISSUE: The Florida Department of Health will hold a hearing about a proposed rule dealing with the application process for new medical-marijuana licenses. The hearing involves one license earmarked for a black farmer who was a member of litigation dealing with federal discriminatory lending practices and four other licenses for applicants seeking entry into the state’s highly restricted medical marijuana market. The Legislature ordered the new licenses following the passage of a 2016 constitutional amendment that broadly legalized medical marijuana in Florida. (Friday, 9 a.m., Florida Department of Health, 4025 Bald Cypress Way, Tallahassee.)
JUDGE WEIGHS EDUCATION AMENDMENT: Leon County Circuit Judge John Cooper will hold a hearing in a dispute about a proposed constitutional amendment that calls for changes in the state’s education system. The League of Women Voters of Florida filed the lawsuit to try to keep the amendment off the November ballot. The amendment was placed on the ballot by the state Constitution Revision Commission and includes three different issues. It would impose an eight-year term limit on school board members. It would require “civic literacy” to be promoted in public schools. And it would allow charter schools to be authorized by entities other than local school boards, which now make those decisions. The lawsuit targets the charter-school part of the proposal and alleges that the ballot wording is misleading. (Friday, 9:30 a.m., Leon County Courthouse, 301 South Monroe St., Tallahassee.)

The only way to appreciate your bus drivers is to pay them much more ! What you pay is an joke for such an important and stressful job . You do realize this driver sits with his/her back to 60 kids ! And drives a vehicle threw the streets of this crazy town .

As a Bus Driver for Flagler Public Schools for 10 years I am completely convinced that the School Board does not care enough for bus drivers and aides. The School Board do not listen to us or pay what we deserve. We are responsible for the student’s lives AM and PM and we do that in not ideal conditions. We need to pay close attention to the road, the crazy traffic, the discipline of the students, their compliance to the bus rules, and also the students’ well being and issues with the parents. We do it anyway and are very proud of it because we care for the students. But we are paid just cents and to get a little raise our Union needs to go through a difficult process with the Board. At the beginning of the school year, during the in-service, the first thing we hear is how important we are. Just words lost in the air… And by the way, no one never invited me to this appreciation breakfast, not to mention that at 8:30 on a Friday morning most of the drivers and aides are still rolling and not able to go attend any event.
