Veronica Maggs, 2011 Employee of the Year: Adult Education

January 13, 2011 | FlaglerLive | Leave a Comment

Since 2004 I have worked for Adult Education as program manager for the Make It-Take It program. The program is targeted towards “at-risk” youth to help them have access to technology in their homes. Computers are donated to the program and I drive around in my big blue bus (the MITI bus) which is a State-of-the-art mobile technology center. I teach students all different types of software in the first section of the course and then, along with my volunteer, Bill Welch, show students how to break down, rebuild and upgrade the donated computers. Upon completion of the course the students are given the computer they rebuilt to take home to keep. I have represented the school district at many national and international events and other school districts have replicated the Make It-Take It model.
