I am very honored to be nominated for Employee of the Year. My name is Laura Cappello and I have a wonderful family, my husband John and two sons, Brian and Danny. My family and I moved to Flagler County nine years ago to be closer to my parents who had retired here many, many years ago. Both my children attended Flagler County Schools and colleges in the state. I have been working for Flagler County Schools for seven years and enjoy working with everyone. I started in 2003 as an executive secretary to the director of the newly formed construction department, working in a trailer on-site at Flagler County’s newest high school, Matanzas High School. This was a fun and exciting time for me because I was working from my home before this job. Now I had new friends and many new office mates.
Since our department began we have built Matanzas High School, Belle Terre Elementary School, Bunnell Elementary School Addition, Rymfire Elementary School and addition. At the time the school system was small and I knew everyone’s first name on the administration side. We moved our offices several times and now I reside in the plant services department where both departments merged just this year. My current duties include secretarial and bookkeeper tasks for the director along with the entire department. I have found that I am always learning new things and that is the best part of the job for me. I would like to thank everyone in our department.
