Margaret Carcagente, 2011 Employee of the Year: Belle Terre Elementary

January 13, 2011 | FlaglerLive | Leave a Comment

I moved to Palm Coast 12 years ago. I was previously employed at the Brentwood Schools on Long Island, New York for 16 years. Nancy Willis gave me a chance to work with children again in the Pre-K program with Jan Hammond and Diane Lesnick. I will always be thankful to them. During the first six years at ITS, one of the biggest honors I received was being named Apprentice of the Year for the Flagler Schools. I had just completed a 300-hour course and earned my CDS certificate. I have been married to my best friend from high school, Frank, for 37 years and have three beautiful children whom I adore. David is 35 and a manager for Red Lobster. Jennifer is 30 and a high school ESE teacher. Seven years ago, Jenn moved to South Africa to work as a missionary. Michelle, my youngest daughter, is 25 and a recent UCF graduate. She is an office manager in Ocala. Michelle and her new husband, Jimmy, were married in July.

I am proud to work a second job in our school district. For the past 11 years, I have been a counselor for Extended Day. Every day I want to make a difference in a child’s life. When Belle Terre Elementary was built five years ago, some of us decided to leave ITS and start a new “family” there. I am so honored to represent my Belle Terre Elementary family, the great team I work with every day, as their Employee of the Year.
