Gillian Ceballos, 2011 Employee of the Year: Indian Trails Middle School

January 13, 2011 | FlaglerLive | Leave a Comment

“Working in a middle school.” this is a scenario that was probably the furthest thought in my mind. However, after moving here from Connecticut and Santiago, Chile, other than marrying my husband of 22 years and raising my son and daughter, working at Indian Trails Middle School has turned out to be one of the most rewarding choices that I have ever made. The next 6 school years were spent working with the Exceptional Student Population. I was ready for a huge change and was transferred into our guidance department where I chose to be referred to as the “Guidance Liaison.” This also was the first year for our new principal and many front office positions. Wow, was that an experience. Many skills were quickly learned during our first year as a middle school.

I was fortunate to be transferred to my current position as secretary to our assistant principal, Cathy Thomas. I assist her on a daily basis and also perform various other duties that include ESE scheduling, facilitating the mentoring program, volunteer coordinator, field trips, clinic coverage and so much more. I am also a member of both the technology committee and School Advisory Committee. Also I hold medicine distribution certification, CPR/Heartsaver and First Aid certification and have attained my Florida state license as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant. Each day brings something interesting as I perform my many duties at Indian Trails Middle School. There is always something new and exciting to learn. Children are our most important asset. It is my privilege to interact with them daily and to contribute to their success as they move up into the high school and beyond. Do what is right, do your best, and treat others the way you want to be treated.
