Palm Coast and Flagler County ended 2021 with the lowest number of traffic fatalities in 27 years (nine), and started 2022 with no fatalities for almost two months.
That ended today with a series of horrendous crashes. The first one took place at 5:45 a.m. on State Road 100, killing one person. The second occurred minutes later down the road, in heavy fog, killing two.
The third occurred during the noon hour, in bright light and no weather conditions, on U.S. 1 in Bunnell, across from the Atlantis shopping center, when a woman at the wheel of a sedan somehow lost control as she apparently was driving north, drifted into the east shoulder and the ditch and crashed. The vehicle ended up facing southwest.
The victim was Lynor Cecile Camp, 74, relatively well known in Bunnell for having lived there for decades, in a house on Deen Road that had caused Camp to have a running conflict with the city’s code enforcement department for many years. The issue was the subject of an article in 2013, and a court battle that started the following year and dragged through 2019.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the car, a two-door gray 2001 Toyota with stripes, spin out and hit a pole. The crash took place at 12:28 p.m. Camp was pronounced deceased within minutes.
The Palm Coast Fire Department’s Engine 25 and Ladder 25 along with a Flagler County Fire Rescue ambulance responded, as did the Sheriff’s Office and the Bunnell Police Department. Rescuers sheared off the roof of the car, but the woman died at the scene. The vehicle appeared filled with belongings.
The crash shut down both northbound lanes on U.S. 1, with the Palm Coast Fire Police regulating traffic at the scene. The investigation was turned over to the Florida Highway Patrol, whose investigators were still working the two crashes on State Road 100.
Approaching 2 p.m., traffic was backing up even in the two open, southbound lanes of U.S. 1, suggesting to drivers that they were better advised to seek alternate routes away from U.S. 1 in Bunnell.
The last time four people lost their lives in a single day on Flagler roads was in April 2020, when an adult and two children in one car and an adult in another were killed in a head-on crash in Andalusia, at night, on unlit State Road 100.

Been a strange Friday for sure. I was going to get into the car and go somewhere today. But until the mayhem on the roads ends, I don’t really need to go anywhere. I certainly don’t need to be on a bicycle in this either.

Sad to hear this. Lynore and my wife worked together in the early 90’s at our now defunct Kmart. Lynore was always, low key and friendly.

God bless the family, but if someone really cared they would start fixing the roads, traffic builds, with no relief in site…More Houses More cars…What a concept MORE TRAFFIC on a antiquated roadway that is falling apart…How many more deaths do we have to have before the city does something

She was a dear friend of mine and many others. Miss Lynor, I whaled when I heard what happened to you today and I swear I cannot believe you’re gone. You were such a great woman a beautiful human being always helping others, always helping me and giving me advice. My heart is truly broken and I’m so glad I got to spend time with you last night. I will miss you dearly and may your soul Rest In Eternal Peace. I’m so sorry this happened to you but I can only imagine that God, needed you more up there now. I love you Miss Lynor

Lynor would come by Bank of America and let me know how her new house was coming and that she just received her occupancy papers so she could move in. It was a LONG process but she was excited to finally get in her new house. R.I.P Lynor

I am saddened by all of the loss of life.
My wife and I live out on the West side of Flagler. It isn’t uncommon to see a reckless regard for traffic laws and safety out here. And very rarely do we see any presence of FCSO or FHP. When you head into Palm Coast via 305 and 100 you do so at your own risk. Even in fair weather we have both been nearly run off the road by aggresive drivers.
Both agencies need to take notice of this area more. And folks need to slow way down. And exercise a lot more courtesy and respect. Those few seconds you think you gain by driving disrespectful don’t make that much difference. And often end up in permanent life altering decisions like today.

Lyn wasn’t a bad person at all, it’s really sad she’s gone this way.

Ms. Lenore had a kind heart and great love for the disadvantaged. Although she worked full time she was always volunteering at the church and expressed great love for the least in the community. She spent hours in prayer and had great faith. She told me about the conditions for African American people when she first moved to town.
Lenore also loved animals and spent endless hours concerned about them. I know the authorities will not miss her but we real people will.

I’m saddened to hear of Lenore’s passing. She was a good human being. Loved life and those around her including the least of His creatures. May she rest in peace.
