The vehicle, a late-model Kia Optima, was stolen in Broward County in the past 24-48 hours, and had been dumped at Hershel King Park’s boat ramp.
Amber Smith of Palm Coast lost control of her Honda on I-95 this morning, slammed into another car, and flew into a large pond 10 feet below the road level, but was able to crawl out of the half-submerged car and get rescued. An intricate salvage operation ensued.
The county’s three wrecking companies–John’s Towing, Roger’s Towing and Saxon’s Wrecker–are significantly regulated, in this case by the Flagler County Commission, which raised the base rate 25 percent for most tows.
Rogers was allegedly trespassing on Flagler County Housing Authority grounds, from where he ran when a cop confronted him. He is in jail on $1,500 bond.
A man and a young woman of about 18 were pulled out of a white pick-up truck and handcuffed, and some eight Sheriff’s Office cars were at the scene for more than an hour Monday afternoon.
