Suspended Student Feared To Have a Weapon at Bunnell Elementary Fence Triggers Alert, and Arrest

Bunnell Elementary is surrounded by residential neighborhoods and is a broad, open campus.

A student who’d been suspended earlier in the day is facing arrest for assault was seen at a Bunnell Elementary fence with what looked like a weapon near dismissal time Wednesday afternoon, causing a lockdown.

Six students were at Flagler Palm Coast High School were tied Wednesday to what a district spokesperson described as “a detailed plan to conduct a coordinated plot against Flagler Palm Coast High School.” The alleged plot was to have involved guns.

Sean Gilliam, a sixth grader at Bunnell Elementary, correctly spelled the word buoyancy to defeat 16 competitors. Fifth grader Grayson Ronk of Wadsworth Elementary School was the runner­up.

Flagler Palm Coast High School’s and Bunnell Elementary’s students combined for one first place award, two second place, and two third place awards at the annual international problem solvers’ competition, just concluded at Indiana University. Flagler County’s awards represented fully one third of all the awards collected by Florida schools.
