Clifford Odets’s play, opening at Palm Coast’s City Repertory Theatre Thursday and running as a staged reading through Sunday, tells the story of Frank Elgin, a once-lauded actor who’s become mired in booze even as he’s hoping to return to his past glory, while his ever-faithful wife, Georgie, struggles to keep him from tumbling into an alcoholic abyss. CRT is staging some of its leading stars and veterans, including Director John Sbordone.

“This is the first bobcat I’ve seen during my 31 years in Florida,” writes Rick de Yampert of his sighting outside his Seminole Woods home this morning. “At my hermitage beside the wilderness in Palm Coast, there are wild woods to the south and flatwoods to the east and southeast. Bob sat at the east edge of my backyard for a full 20 minutes.”

With $243,000 in cash and savings and $1.4 million in assets, the Flagler Playhouse begins to light up its stage again in Bunnell with workshops and, come September, a new season starting with Neil Simon’s “Rumors.”

Husband-and-wife duo Thom Shepherd and Coley McCabe Shepherd will perform from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the Bloody Mary Brunch Bash, Oceanside Bar and Grill, 1848 S. The festival is now in its fourth year, has grown from nine songwriters and an attendance of 275 in its first year to some 30 songwriters this year, and hopes to exceed the 700-some who attended when it was last held in person. The festival is the brainchild of Garry Lubi, the Palm Coast banker.

The Cherry Drops’s Feb. 27 show will be Flagler Auditorium’s second in its Community Celebration Series, a multi-artist, multi-media string of spring performances that lives up to its title. Along with concerts by mostly area music artists, each event will include presentations and activities by area civic and cultural groups such as the Flagler County Historical Society, and the Palm Coast Cruisers with their car show.

Artist Tom Gargiulo, cofounder of the Gargiulo Arts Foundation, along with his partner Arlene Volpe, will present an artist talk from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 19, Rick de Yampert, whose photographic digital art is included in a current exhibit at the Art League, will present talks from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at FCAL.
