A small sailboat was reported in distress offshore Flagler Beach, about a mile away, parallel to South 12th Street, just after 2 p.m. Monday. But the alert proved groundless: Flagler County Fire Flight at 2:20 p.m. called in a report that “everything is 10-4 here,” meaning that the scene on the sailboat was normal.
The Flagler Beach Fire Department was on shore, with Flagler Beach Fire Chief commanding the scene. The Coast Guard was called in. At least two people appear to be on the sailboat, waving an orange cloth, moving quickly toward the south, according Roberts. Volusia authorities were being called in too, as the white sailboat moved south.
It is unknown specifically how many people were on board. The fire department was called in when it appeared as if the people on board were in distress. The alert was called off at 2:22 p.m., and Fire Flight was back at the Flagler County Airport at 2:24 p.m.
