Between 2 and 3 a.m. Saturday Flagler County Sheriff’s deputy Daniel Malta was on a routine patrol in Palm Coast’s R-Section when two individuals running across Rymfire Drive caught his attention. Before long, three teens were under arrest and charged with burglary, and two of them were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor: the third suspect is 16, and the three had been working in concert.
Those running across Rymfire were Willie Green, 19, of Alexandria Circle in DeLand, and a 16-year-old resident of DeLand. When Malta stopped them, he observed that both were wet, muddy, and had several items about them that they could not explain. Malta, joined by other deputies, discovered a digital camera, two black cloth gloves and a wallet belonging to a 23-year-old woman who lives on Red Barn Drive. The deputies then denoted several muddy footprints and a single Nike flipflop in the ditch behind the house at 1 Red Clover Lane, a property that backs up to Rymfire.
Not far from there, the deputies discovered another flipflop and another woman’s wallet. Since the two individuals Malta had stopped were wearing shoes, the deputies deduced that a third accomplice was nearby. Deputies set up a primeter, and that individual, Wayne Williams, 18, was found and secured.
The woman on Red Barn confirmed to deputies that her wallet had been stolen from her burglarized car.
Green agreed to speak and was interviewed by detective Joe Costello at the Palm Coast precinct at City Market Place. He told the detective that he’d burglarized several vehicles–all of them left unlocked (a bane of local enforcement, since the majority of car burglaries involve unlocked cars). Green told Costello he’d picked up the 16-year-old boy from his home knowing that the boy was already on probation.
After the interview, Green showed a deputy the targets of the night’s burglary spree: vehicles at 3, 16 and 22 Red Birch Lane, and 22, 23 and 26 Red Barn Drive. Before cops showed up (someone had contacted 911 to report a suspicious person simultaneous with Malta patrolling the area) the trio had been successful at one of the six attempted burglaries. Green admitted to taking the woman’s wallet on Red Barn, according to his arrest report.
Green is charged with felony burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, criminal attempt to conspire, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was being held on $4,500 bond. Williams, of Knox Avenue in Bunnell, is charged with felony burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and was held on $2,000 bond. The minor is charged with felony burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and criminal attempt to conspire.

How does a 16 YO have a lack of education? Last I heard the school bus picks them up and drops them off. The rest is up to them. What these kids have is a lack of parenting and being taught that you cannot STEAL what is not yours. Try again.

High crime rate versus quality educations, GIVE me a BREAK! With that philosophy the US would be under constant siege as we have some of the worst educational records in the world. I didn’t get the best education but that wasn’t my parents fault it was mine. However, I knew the difference between what was right and what was wrong plus I didn’t expect to get everything for free or better yet steal it. Lock them UP!

Not having the opportunity for something doesn’t give you the privileged of robbing other people. I don’t care what race you are. And at their ages they know right from wrong.
Go get a part time job if you want money. I worked all thru high school to get the things that I wanted. And to pay for a car and insurance.
I get tired of hearing excuses for this type of behavior. And what are 16 year old kids doing out unsupervised in the middle of the night? We had curfews and accountability when I was growing up.
Since the 18 year old confessed hopefully the judge will do the right thing and sentence accordingly. Stop slapping people on the wrists.

I think They should charge the parents for the same crime committed that their under age child commits if the child is a habitual offender, I bet that would get the some reaction from the parents. If I knew I would be charged for a crime my child committed rest assured there would be some intrusive parenting going on.

The county has let these children down, if we always just rely on the parents to raise our youth right we would be in big trouble, it takes a village to raise a child. Public school is not free, the supplies are not free, school clothes and shoes are not free. Do you think a child will choose school over the streets when you are left feeling poor and less than the other kids? People in the comments saying they should be shot are sick monsters and the county should track their ips, and monitor them for future crimes.

Sorry Dave but when a couple makes the decision to have a child that child is THEIR responsibility for the next 18 or more years. NOT the County’s, the State’s or the responsibility of another relative, usually the poor unsuspecting grandparents. If you choose to have a child, it is your responsibility to teach them right from wrong, respect for others and monitor what they are doing, not throw them to the streets which is the easy way out. Nothing in this life is “free” and the wise thing to do is to work for what you want. These kids were all old enough to be working to earn what they want. When my children were young we always impressed on them that there will always be people you have more than you and lots more that have less. They all worked at 16 for spending money, went to college and still worked and then paid loans, are now raising their own families and STILL WORKING. Tell your sob story walking. LOL.

Oh Mary can you even imagine a life where nobody loved you? In fact one where you were treated like a burden,abused,forgotten? Sorry theres no lessons of knowing ur value when uncle is sexually abusing you and mom doesn’t care. @resident of Flagler. You know what my “white privilege” is? I worked from the time I was 16 until I was 65. My Husband (crazy word huh?) and I raised 4 children. They all worked from t he time they were 16 and younger to earn money for things they wanted. We were not rich and able to hand them anything they wanted. No need to steal, get a damn job. My 5 grandchildren ages 13 – 20 all work. The 2 20 year olds go to college plus work. BTW, their parents are more than able to give all of them anything they want but they are teaching them responsibility and getting them ready for the real world. This takes a lot of time and work but worth it in the end. Everyone has t he “privilege” of working for what they want. Stealing is not an option in my book.
