The Flagler County School Board and Palm Coast’s Parks and Recreation division have a long list of summer camps and activities lined up for the ever-too brief vacation weeks ahead, with June 4 the last day of school in Flagler County–and Aug. 24 the first day of the new school year.
School District Summer Camps
Summer Camps at Buddy Taylor Middle School and Wadsworth Elementary School provide a safe and enriching environment for children from Kindergarten through 8th grade while their parents work. Summer Camps are more than simply baby-sitting. The district’s our site managers and counselors do an excellent job at targeting our ongoing overall goals of education, recreation, and socialization by planning a wide variety of activities that are fun, entertaining and enriching. Arts and crafts, sports, games and physical activities are planned for every day, as well as weekly special events, including field trips. Keep in mind: Campers are provided free breakfast and lunch every day for the duration of summer camps. You can thank your federal government for that.
Registration for Summer Camp: March 2 through May 22nd, at any Extended Day site during extended day hours (7-9 a.m., and again between 3 and 6 p.m.) or at the Belle Terre Swim & Racquet Club all day (8a.m.-3:30 p.m.). No registrations will be accepted at Camp. If you register your child June 8th or after there is a 24 hour delay (for processing) before your child can begin attending Camp. There is a non-refundable $20 registration fee per child. (After May 22 the fee goes up to $30 per child.)
The cost of summer camps for students in kindergarten through 5th grade is $85 per week, per child. For students in grades 6 through 8, it’s $90 per week, per child. Camp fees are weekly. There are no daily rates. Fees are due the first day your child attends camp. Please use a check or money order to pay Summer Camps’ fees. Once your child is signed in at Camp it counts as attending the full week. You will not be eligible for a refund once your child has been signed in. All trips, breakfast, lunch and supplies are included. Breakfast and lunch are provided through the Federal Summer Food Service Program and are a set menu. There is no camp on July 3 in observance of Independence Day. All camps will be held between Buddy Taylor Middle School and Wadsworth Elementary School, including the last week of Camp. Check each camp for a tentative trip schedule. Trips can change without notice.
Scholarships to Defray the Cost of Summer Camps Already Over
Scholarship forms were available but were only accepted between April 1 and April 15. Feel free to call the district to complain about the small window (386/446-6717). Scholarships were made available only with a $40-a-week co-pay.
Palm Coast Parks and Recreation Summer Camps
Palm Coast Parks and Recreation is planning a summer of fun and recreation for children and teens through its Fun in the Sun Summer Camp and specialty camps in Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), Firefighter Kids, Naturemania, Junior Lifeguard, golf and tennis. A special Stay-N-Play Camp is planned for afternoons after specialty camps.
More scholarships than ever before are available this year. Applications for scholarships are being accepted through 4 p.m. May 15. The scholarship application form with instructions is available here and also at the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE.
Families may also register for any of the camps now. Registration can be done online here or at the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE. Pre-registration is required for all camps. Registration will remain opened until all camp spaces are filled. Fees are charged by week and cannot be pro-rated for part-time participation.
Here are details, including costs and schedules for the many summer camps being offered this year:
Tennis Camp – Learn the game of tennis at week-long camps offered at two locations, depending on the week(s) selected. Two of the sessions will be offered at Belle Terre Park, 339 Parkview Drive, Palm Coast, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, June 22-26; and/or July 13-17. Cost for the Belle Terre camp is $99/week or $25/day. (Stay-N-Play Camp available in the afternoon – see details below.)
Five additional sessions will be offered at the Palm Coast Tennis Center, 1290 Belle Terre Parkway, Palm Coast, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 29-July 3; July 6-10; July 20-24; July 27-31; and/or Aug. 3-7. The cost for the Palm Coast Tennis Center camp is $125/week or $35/day, with an option for a half-day camp from 9-11:30 a.m. for ages 6-8 for $89/week.
Campers will focus on stroke fundamentals, hand-eye coordination, balance, footwork and match play. Open to all abilities, ages 6 to 13. Campers will need to provide the following: water bottle, towel, hat, lunch, snacks, and drinks. Family discount is available. Pre-registration required two weeks before the camp. Fun in the Sun Summer Camp – Fun-filled, themed activities such as arts and crafts, stories, recreational games, nature hikes, weekly trips to the Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool, and guest presentations are planned for this camp for students in grades K-8 (grade just completed). Camp runs Monday through Friday from June 8 to Aug. 7 (no camp July 3), from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (early drop-off/late pick-up available, for an additional fee) at Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Parkway, NE. Campers are eligible for the free lunch program provided by the Flagler County School District. Optional field trips are scheduled weekly for an additional fee. CSI Camp – Join the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) team to “investigate” the techniques used to identify and process the clues of a crime. Attendees will learn vehicle processing, fingerprinting, and get a glimpse into forensics casting. This week-long camp includes a tour of the County courthouse and jail. Camp is open to students in grades 3-5 (grade just completed) and runs Monday through Friday, June 22-26, from 8:30-11:30 a.m., at Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool, 339 Parkview Drive, Palm Coast. $60 for the week. Firefighter Kids Camp – Campers will visit a fire station and use regulation fire equipment. They will learn firefighting techniques, the concept of CPR and first aid, home and fire safety and how to properly use a fire extinguisher during this week-long camp Monday through Friday, July 13-17, 8:30-11:30 a.m. at Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool classroom, 339 Parkview Drive, Palm Coast. Naturemania – This camp is perfect for adventurous nature- and wildlife-loving children in grades 3-6 (grade just completed). The small camp setting will focus on experiential learning in the environmental sciences. The week-long camp will be Monday through Friday, July 20-24, 8:30-11:30 a.m. at Linear Park, 18 Greenway Court, (off of Colbert Road), Palm Coast. $60 for the week (Enter code NATCMP15 to receive $5 off online registration). Junior Lifeguard Camp – The Junior Lifeguard Camp offers step-by-step lifeguarding skill development. Students ages 11-14 will learn water safety, lifeguard rescues, and First Aid CPR/AED in this two-week camp Monday through Friday, July 20-24 and July 27-31, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool, 339 Parkview Drive, Palm Coast. Golf Camp – Learn the game of golf during these week-long, fun-filled days of short game, full swing, putting, golf etiquette, sportsmanship, and friendly competition at the Palm Harbor Golf Course, 100 Cooper Lane, Palm Coast. Open to all skill levels, ages 8-15. Camp dates are Monday through Friday, June 15-19; July 6-10; and/or Aug. 3-7; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch, snacks and drinks included. Stay-N-Play Camp – Stay and play after a fun day at one of the City’s specialty camps! Campers will play games, swim and enjoy the on-site playground. Stay-N-Play will run 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 22-26; July 13-17; July 20-24; and July 27-31, at the Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool classroom, 339 Parkview Drive, Palm Coast. As a parent, we send our child up north to Wisconsin for the summer. He particularly like the cool nights and the cool mist of the morning over the lake. he goes to Swift Nature Camp an old fashioned out in nature camp. It’s set up for kids that are not the most active in sports but kinda like catching frogs, swimming and archery. This will be his 5th summer. Ya might take a look here http://www.swiftnaturecamp.com

Thank you so much for publishing the Summer Camp information for Flagler County Schools as well as other area camps. It is so important for parents to know that there are safe places for their children to go during the summer months. Flagler County Schools is going to be able to provide $10,500 in camp scholarships to about 41 children for 3 weeks each this summer. Last but no least, as stated above, our trips, breakfast and lunch are included in our fees. We hope that all of our children have a safe and carefree summer.

These camps are great but for my 13 year old, who would LOVE the CSI camp, it stops at 5th grade. Please consider offering more camps for 7-8th graders. They are at a great age to discover and should not be spending the summer sitting around when they are too old for most specialty camps and too young to volunteer or work.
