Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies are seeking help in tracking down whoever stole a pair of laser lights from the Palm Coast Rotary’s holiday fantasy light display in Central Park in Palm Coast’s Town Center. This year is the 8th year that the event has been sponsored by the Rotary.

Rotary President-Elect John Skirpo told police that fellow-Rotarian Bill Butler–the landscape architect with Palm Coast–reported to him that sometime between December 14 and 15 someone tampered with the cabling and anchors used to secure the two Bliss Sprite Laser Lights that were part of the annual holiday display. The lights were placed beneath an oak tree toward the backside of the display and were secured with ground anchors and cable to help prevent theft. The incident was relayed to Butler by Mike Kuypers. The two lights were valued at $340 dollars.

“It’s sad that during this holiday season, someone has selfishly ruined a part of our community’s holiday tradition,” Sheriff Jim Manfre, himself is a member of the Rotary–and a volunteer at the display–said. “Rest assured that if we catch the Grinch, the only thing he will be getting Christmas morning will be a stocking full of coal hanging from the door of his cell in our jail.”

If you have information about either of these incidents or any crime that may have occurred in Flagler County, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-8477. You can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

Asking tough questions is increasingly met with hostility. The political climate—nationally and right here in Flagler County—is at war with fearless reporting. Officials and powerbrokers often prefer echo chambers to accountability. They want news that flatters, not news that informs. They want stenographers. We give them journalism. You know by now, after 16 years, that FlaglerLive won’t be intimidated. We dig. We don't sanitize to pander or please. We report reality, no matter who it upsets. Even you. But standing up to this kind of pressure requires resources. We need a community that values courage over comfort. Stand with us, and help us hold the line. Fund the journalism they don't want you to read. No paywall. But it's not free. Take a moment, become a champion of enlightening journalism. Any amount helps. What’s sad Mr. Manfre is that you were actually re-elected! What on EARTH were people thinking? Beautiful light display at Town Center though….thank you Palm Coast Rotary.

I don’t really like Manfre, but what does he have to do with this? It’s sad that you have to use an article about stolen Christmas lights to make a politically charged, irrelevant comment.

I wish we’d all stick to the topic at hand a little more around here…

It is so sad that something so nice and is enjoyed by many people has to be tampered with. Why can’t we all live civil and respect each other and their property???

@Just A Girl Sheriff Manfre was elected by the people in this county, if you don’t like the job he is doing, you will have an opportunity to elect someone else. I for one will support our Sheriff when he is doing his job, no matter who they are.

@ Diana & confidential: I voted for Manfre… and am very glad for you that you are proud of him. We all have that right. seems however, you have not fallen victim to his hurtful, vindictive, blackmailing types of behavior. And yes, I said blackmail. I can’t WAIT for re-election time. this isn’t a soap opera. This is real-life; our county, with our children that have suffered in each and every decision he has made. EVERY decision.

@ Shocker. I didn’t say I was proud of Sheriff Manfre, I just stated that I will support any Sheriff when they are doing their job. You are correct when you say I haven’t fallen prey to vindictiveness so I can’t answer to that. If that happened to you, or someone you know, I certainly would not support that.
