Juneteenth Celebration at Palm Coast’s African American Cultural Center Saturday

The African American Cultural Society Inc., will again host an observance of Juneteenth on Saturday, June 15, starting at 1 p.m. at the AACS on U.S. 1. All are welcome to join this free cultural event, the only national holiday commemoration the abolition of slavery.

The Flagler County NAACP’s annual ACT-SO Olympics of the Mind at Matanzas High’s Pirates Theater Saturday brought out dozens of student performers in music, dance, oratory, song and in the visual arts, humanities and science, with winners potentially qualifying for the national competition in Orlando in July.

Ntozake Shange’s play for seven women characters, staged at the African American Cultural Center, was a Broadway hit in 1976 and remains a classic of an entirely original style of American stage poetry and oral folk traditions.
