Matthew Otis, 20, of Palm Coast, was lost in the Intracoastal around 6:30 Sunday evening as he and friends were boating and tubing on the water.
Features of the app include state boating information, a safety equipment checklist, free boating safety check requests, navigation rules, float plans, and calling features to report pollution or suspicious activity.
The Lady Maritza, registered to Clearwater-based Demar Fishing Inc., was shark-fishing when its pilot fell asleep, sending the boat aground just before dawn. It was freed by early afternoon.
The four people and a dog on the boat were on their way to a four- to six-month cruise to the Caribbean. A St. Augustine boat police patrolman responded to the distress call and rescued the sailors Wednesday.
The two fishermen on board the 50-year-old “Satisfaction,” registered to a company in Port Orange, swam safely to shore around 1:30 a.m., and their catch was salvaged.
