(Outdoor reception begins at 6:30pm followed by the scheduled program for 7pm).

Staly was a Cub Scout and later a Boy Scout as a youth and as a teenager joined the Boy Scouts of America, Law Enforcement program, where he learned and refined his interest in law enforcement. Sheriff Staly was promoted through the ranks as a BSA Explorer to Captain of the Unit with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. Just to clarify the article, this “Golden Eagle” award is a local civic award given to non-scouts. It is NOT equivalent to the Eagle Scout Rank which is earned by a scout who has displayed knowledge of the required scout skills and demonstrated leadership and maturity by ever increasing responsibilities within his or her troop. The patch, medal and ribbon representing the Eagle Scout Rank are not handed out to anyone who is not an active scout and completed all requirements for the rank (except the final Board of Review) prior to their 18th birthday. To be clear, Mr. Staley is NOT an Eagle Scout.
