Update: The Sheriff’s Office Friday released the following: “After re-interviewing the 20-year-old Flagler County man who was shot Thursday night, detectives have now learned the man accidentally shot himself at his residence. As soon as the investigation is completed, detectives expect to send a charging affidavit to the State Attorney’s office for review.”
June 16–The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting of a 20-year-old Flagler County man near Bayberry Village Road and Old Dixie Highway.
The sheriff’s office, according to a brief release issued late tonight, received a call from Florida Hospital Flagler at 7:04 p.m. about a man who was brought to their emergency department by his mother with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, below the rib cage. The man has since been transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for the treatment of his non-life-threatening injury. He was alert, conscious and in stable condition.
Detectives were interviewing Peters around 10 p.m. Additional information was to be provided by the department as the investigation continues, likely early Friday morning.
There is sketchy information–unconfirmed–that Peters had gone out to get his mail when he was shot by someone in a car driving by.
“We’re not certain,” a sheriff’s spokesman said about that detail. “It’s been a little complicated to try to get everything from him that we need.” He said the circumstances of the shooting were “absolutely” suspicious, but that there were odd circumstances, too. “He didn’t call 911, his mom didn’t call 911, his mom drove him to the hospital, so we’re looking at the facts very carefully.”
The spokesman said there was no danger to the community, “nothing that we know of.”
In late morning Friday, the sheriff’s office released the following: “FCSO detectives have received limited information about the shooting and plan to interview [Peters] again today. Based on the facts obtained from the victim, he claims he was shot by a black male, approximately 6 feet tall with a slim build and short hair. The vehicle that was used by the suspect is described as a black four-door sedan with white on the sides. The incident is considered possibly drug-related.”

Sounds like the guy shot himself but can’t figure out who to blame it own. Maybe his mom was playing with the gun and shot him, so many maybes about this one. A simple tell the truth would work.

I agree with Retired law enforcement and DaveT. I live very near where this happened, and I can tell you there is a lot of gunfire happening on a regular basis in this area. Sometimes for hours on end, and it really gets annoying. Someone in this area is taking full advantage the change in law a few years back that allows folks to discharge firearms on their property. I think this was some kind of accident – either self inflicted or caused by another person known to the victim. Seriously – who doesn’t call 911 after allegedly being shot in a drive-by? It just doesn’t make sense, and I’m glad the FSCO is investigating.

Maybe the victim is part of a gang or involved in something shady that led to him being targeted by shady “associates.” And maybe mom knows that full well. Which is why neither one reported anything to the police.

According to FSCO records, Dyllan Peters was arrested in 2014 and charged with cultivating marijuana. Could shooting be related?

From my experience, the only ppl who don’t report being shot are those that are hiding something and/or a real gangster. Something is telling me Dyllan (with 2 l’s driven to hospital by his mama) is no gangster.

How does this guy even has access to guns? Family members and friends who truly love him would be well-advised to remove all firearms from his easy reach. Perhaps his probation orders could be amended to include this provision, if his probation is supervised and his PO decides to take him back into court for any violation associated with his behavior. It’s no guarantee, of course, but it couldn’t hurt.
