Close to midnight Friday, cops were alerted about a naked man walking on the side of State Road 100 near County Road 205, west of Bunnell. A deputy made contact with the man, Shaun Williams, a 34-year-old resident of San Jose Boulevard in Holly Hill. He was disoriented and covered in blood, according to a police report of the incident, and said he’d just been robbed at gunpoint by two black men. Williams is white.

At Florida Hospital Flagler, where Williams was taken, Williams told deputies that about two weeks earlier, he’d met a black woman named “Tree” at a convenience store at the intersection of Derbyshire Road and LPGA Boulevard in Daytona Beach. He and “Tree” became friends and kept in touch by phone. On the night of the incident, he and “Tree” had plans to meet and go on their first date. According to Williams, “Tree” picked him up from the same convenience store where they’d met. She was driving a dark blue late 90s model four-door sedan (likely a Nissan Altima or Chevy Lumina).

Two black men were in the vehicle with her, Williams told police. “Tree” introduced them as her brother and a as a friend of his. The man referred to as her brother is described as approximately 30, with short hair, possibly a tattoo artist. His friend is described as also being 30, with short hair.

“Tree” said she needed to drop off the men at her brother’s house before taking Williams out to dinner. “Tree” drove north on U.S. 1 until turning west onto West State Road 100, driving several minutes until finally making a right onto an unknown side road.

“Stop right over here. I’ve got to wait for a friend,” “Tree”‘s brother said at that point, in Williams’s telling. “Tree” backed the vehicle into what he described as an empty cow pasture. Williams said he then exited the vehicle so he could relieve himself. Once out of the car, he said, he was struck twice in the face with a hard metal object, according to the report. Williams fell to the ground and held his face.

“Give me all your money and all your clothes,” one of the men allegedly ordered.

“Are you serious?” Williams said.

“Do you see what I’ve got pointed at you?” the man replied. Williams, opening his eyes, said he saw a semi-automatic pistol pointed directly at his face. Williams then emptied his pockets and took off all his clothes, handing them to the man. He turned over about $200 in cash, along with a Straight-Talk cellular phone, his Florida driver’s license, a gray tank top, a pair of black Dickie shorts and a pair of gray and black DC sneakers. The two men and “Tree” then fled.

Williams suffered several lacerations to the right side of his face. Williams told police he would fully cooperate with a criminal investigation and that he wanted the suspects prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The case was turned over the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office’s Investigative Services Division.

Williams is no stranger to the Volusia County court system and the Volusia County jail. According to court records, he’s faced charges on 10 separate occasions since 1999, including several cases of battery or domestic battery, fleeing or attempting to elude, criminal mischief, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and driving on a revoked or suspended license.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact their offices at 386/586-4801 or call Crimestoppers at 888-277- TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

With his past criminal background I am not surprised that he was finally the victim.

Hey …do not blame beautiful Florida for the wrong path this dude chose in his life.
Florida is beautiful and the humidity keeps everyone’s skin smooth after our sushine and salt life tanning. Florida should have better infraestructure if our politicians won’t be so corrupt!

The Florida sun ages you at an accelerated rate and DIRECTLY causes skin cancers.
Don’t be foolish and dwell about without sunblock.

Florida air-conditioning is good for you. :-)
