Armed Robber Takes Hundreds of Oxycodone Pills from Winn Dixie Pharmacy on SR 100

November 22, 2010 | FlaglerLive | 3 Comments

Flagler County Sheriff’s detectives are investing the armed robbery of the Winn Dixie Pharmacy on State Road 100 just before noon Sunday morning.

According to deputies, a white man walked up to the counter and handed an attendant a note demanding oxycodone and cash. The robber said he had a gun, but did not want to use it. No gun was displayed during the robbery. Oxycodone is the faster-acting version of Oxycontin. Both are narcotics used to alleviate pain. Both are addictive and give users a euphoric feeling.

The pharmacist was handed a plastic bag for the pills and once the robber received them–several hundred worth–he left through the store’s front door. No cash was taken during the incident.

Deputies reported the man was believed to be traveling in a dark colored vehicle. He is described as being about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses. He was wearing yellow gloves at the time of the robbery.

“We are hopeful that someone may have seen this man leaving or entering his vehicle on the parking lot. Any information would be of assistance to our detectives,” said Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office at 386/313-4911 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-277-8477.

Oxycodone and oxycontin are the favored pills used by addicts and prescription-drug traffickers, especially in South Florida, keeping so-called “pill mills” busy. The state has been attempting to crack down on pill mills. Fleming is urging local governments to pass ordinances imposing a moratorium on pain clinics in hope of stopping the spread of pill mills from South Florida, where they are being aggressively pursued.

Local, legitimate and professional pain management clinics are going to great lengths to ensure that they are not unfairly tainted by the association with fly-by-night pill mills.

Just prior to this latest heist three local professional medical practices were unjustified singled out by our head law enforcement of being pill mills. So where all these stolen pills will end up now? Also where was our law enforcement maybe patrolling only the higher end neighborhoods? Sure we need our sheriff deputies patrolling our Palm Coast Parkway as is becoming a speedway for totally unmonitored speeders in very noisy motorbikes as well as motor vehicles specially along our Linear Park that is actually a death trap for our innocent wildlife. What about some compassionate signs in that area announcing ” Caution Wildlife Crossing” so we will spare the life of bears, deer, squirrels, feral cats and birds being killed in that section added to some more sheriff deputies traffic monitoring.

I’ve taken Oxycodone for post surgery pain and didn’t find them either addictive nor euphoria inducing. They dulled the pain, but didn’t take it away completely. They didn’t even make me as light-headed as couple of glasses on wine.

I think these guys will be sorely disappointed.

some people have no idea of what they speak of,pain meds are there to help people in pain,,i myself have 2 bulging disk,,,no med insurance,,,have to pay out of pocket,,,but now with the DEA steeping in i no longer have pain meds.so maybe i should break the law and get them off the streets…but no ill just suffer…while were at it why dont we just ban all drugs, beer, wine, birth control, heart meds,,,diabetes meds and just deal with it.there are plenty of natural remedy .people really dont need them…its just natural way of life…but the people that need those meds will crucify me for saying that..only because its what they need to live a productive life..or to keep on living when there time has already expired.my point is the DEA has no right to tell doctors what they cant or can do…keep spending billions of $$ on the other drug wars that will never end…
