Today at a Glance:

Palm Coast Farmers’ Market at European Village: The city’s only farmers’ market is open every Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at European Village, 101 Palm Harbor Pkwy, Palm Coast. With fruit, veggies, other goodies and live music. For Vendor Information email [email protected]

Grace Community Food Pantry, 245 Education Way, Bunnell, drive-thru open today from noon to 3 p.m. The food pantry is organized by Pastor Charles Silano and Grace Community Food Pantry, a Disaster Relief Agency in Flagler County. Feeding Northeast Florida helps local children and families, seniors and active and retired military members who struggle to put food on the table. Working with local grocery stores, manufacturers, and farms we rescue high-quality food that would normally be wasted and transform it into meals for those in need. The Flagler County School District provides space for much of the food pantry storage and operations. Call 386-586-2653 to help, volunteer or donate.

Al-Anon Family Groups: Help and hope for families and friends of alcoholics. Meetings are every Sunday at Silver Dollar II Club, Suite 707, 2729 E Moody Blvd., Bunnell, and on zoom. More local meetings available and online too. Call 904-315-0233 or see the list of Flagler, Volusia, Putnam and St. Johns County meetings here.

Notably: Among the sites and organizations you will not hear about too frequently in American media is Breaking the Silence. According to its website, it is an Israeli “organization of veteran soldiers who have served in the Israeli military since the start of the Second Intifada and have taken it upon themselves to expose the public to the reality of everyday life in the Occupied Territories. We endeavor to stimulate public debate about the price paid for a reality in which young soldiers face a civilian population on a daily basis, and are engaged in the control of that population’s everyday life. Our work aims to bring an end to the occupation.” The About page goes on: “Soldiers who serve in the territories witness and participate in military actions that change them immensely. Cases of abuse toward Palestinians, looting and destruction of property have been the norm for years, but these incidents are still described officially as “extreme” and “unique” cases. Our testimonies portray a different – and much grimmer – picture, in which the deterioration of moral standards finds expression in the character of the military orders and rules of engagement that the state considers justified in the name of Israel’s security. While this reality is well-known to Israeli soldiers and commanders, Israeli society in general continues to turn a blind eye and deny what is being done in its name. Discharged soldiers returning to civilian life discover the gap between the reality they encountered in the territories, and the silence about this reality they find at home. In order to resume civilian life, soldiers have to ignore what they have seen and done. We strive to make heard the voices of these soldiers, pushing Israeli society to face the reality it has created.”

—P.T.

I remember this one mission I was in: go in, take control, the whole procedure. We’re in the window doing what we’re supposed to do, looking out the window. And then one of my soldiers, I was a sergeant, so one of my soldiers sort of calls up and says, “Hey, hey. Come quickly, I need your help.” And I got there, and the situation was a father, standing with his daughter in his own home, trying to take her to the bathroom. And my soldier was standing there with his gun cocked in the face of the father, and his daughter is standing there between his legs, petrified. When I got there, she had already peed in her pants. That was sort of one of those moments where I was like, “What the fuck are we doing? Who is this for?”

—Avner Gvaryahu of Breaking the Silence, “an organization of veteran soldiers who have served in the Israeli military since the start of the Second Intifada and have taken it upon themselves to expose the public to the reality of everyday life in the Occupied Territories,” quoted in The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates (2024).

Our american oligarchs don’t want us to know about this. Science is woke and it says the world is dying rapidly and way faster than expected. We chose suicide!! Let’s burn oil to oblivion!! We’re way ahead of schedule. Should be able to get to 4 degrees by 2040 that will eliminate the humans from existence. Haha but they made a lot a value for shareholders for a short time though lol…
